WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1, 2006 LOCAL THE ADVOCATE-MESSENGER WWW.AMNEWS.COM Obituaries Phillip L. Hash SOMERSET Phillip Leon Hash, 56, of Somerset, died Saturday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 15, 1950, in Louisville, he was a son of Leon C. and Barbara L.

Murner Hash of Danville. He was a business owner, a member of Delmer Nazarene Church in Nancy and a former member of the National Guard. Other survivors include his wife, Patricia Sullivan Hash; two daughters, Meredith Braun of China, and Laura Reed of Somerset; two brothers, Jerry Hash of Lexington and Kevin Hash of Louisville; and two granddaughters. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Pulaski Funeral Home by the Rev.

Richard Morgan. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 4:30 p.m. today. Memorials may go to Nazarene World Missions or Nazarene Alabaster Fund.

James P. Melton Jr. FRANKFORT James Preston Melton 80, died Mon- day at his home. Born Nov. 7, 1925, in Barbourville, he was a son of the late James P.

and Katherine M. Green Melton. He was an Army veteran, having served in the European and Mediterranean theaters, and earning two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. He earned a master of arts degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University and also attended Union College, University of Kentucky and Harvard University. He taught at several schools, was an elementary school principal in Lincoln County and superintendent of the Bourbon County school system.

He served several positions for the state Department of Education served as public school finance consultant for the U.S. Department of Education and held educational positions in several other states. In 1977, he became executive director of the state School Boards Association where he served until his retirement. He was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Eldred W.

Melton; a son, James P. Melton III of Frankfort; a daughter, Sarah A. Hamilton of Mason, Ohio; a brother, Robert T. Melton of Lexington; nieces and nephews, including Robert Melton of Danville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisabeth Melton; and a son, David Melton.

Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may go to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of FUNERALS Thomas A. Spragens A memorial service for Thomas A. Spragens, 88, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Danville, will be 2 p.m.

Saturday at The Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Eric Mount and James Stewart. A private committal service will be in Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas K. Farmer.

He died Feb. 11 in Columbia. Born April 25, 1917, in Lebanon, he was a son of the Policenews Visit our online obituary archive at www.amnews.com late William H. and Lillian Brewer Spragens. A 1938 graduate of the University of Kentucky, he also studied at the Maxwell School of Public Administration.

While in Danville, he was a member of The Presbyterian Church and the Danville Rotary Club. He retired as president of Centre College in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Catharine Smallwood Spragens; a daughter, Barbara S. Kelley of Columbia; two sons, Thomas A. Spragens Jr.

of Durham, N.C., and David Spragens of Sewanee, seven grandchildren; and two greatgrandsons. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. Memorials may go to The Presbyterian Church, Centre College, Danville- County Public Library building fund or charity of one's choice. Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. H.B.

Johnson Services for H.B. Johnson, 75, of Junction City, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

He died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center. Pallbearers will be James Anderson, Ricky Clark, Larry Carrier, Jeff Graham, Brandon Clark and Eric Carrier. Honorary pallbearers are Melissa Clark, Kimberley Anderson, Lindsay Stewart and Brad Carrier. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at Preston Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to 'American Lung Association. Flossie Royalty HARRODSBURG Services for Flossie Allen Brummett Royalty, 91, will be 1. p.m. Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

She died Monday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Mary Jane Cochran Allen. She was a retired Cricketeer employee, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, and the widow of Elwood Royalty.

Survivors include three daughters, Opal Clark of Harrodsburg, Gussi Smith of Lexington and Pat Brock of Nicholasville; three stepchildren, Clifford Royalty of Lawrenceburg, Brenda Stiglich and Donald W. Royalty, both of Harrodsburg; a brother, William Allen of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great- Royalty grandchildren; Royalty several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several stepgreatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma L. Brummett; and a son, William A. Brummett Jr.

Pallbearers will be Tim Abner, Tony Beasley, John Kartner, Kevin Royalty, Richard Royalty and Dennis Stiglich. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Royalty Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Thurs- day at the church.

Crab Orchard driver injured in accident STANFORD A driver was injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 150, state police said. Trudy J. Kidd, 51, of 8105 Ky 1781, Crab Orchard, was taken to Fort Logan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Trooper H.P. Blanton.

She was driving west in the right lane when her vehicle collided with a pickup truck driven by Michael N. Wallin, 22, of 65 Harris Road, Crab Orchard. The Wallin truck was attempting to pass Kidd's automobile and forced both vehicles into the median. Stanford Emergency Medical Service and firefighters from Lincoln County Fire Station 1 also responded. He took the money in person to the City Commission meeting Monday. The county and city decided to join forces in September, and the county collects the city's occupational license fees and net profits tax. Boyle County Sheriff's Department is collecting the city's property tax. As a result of the agreement, the city laid-off one employee and will not replace another employee who retired. Wilder told commissioners that the county may need to hire someone to help in the finance department.

The county occupational license administrator collects the city's license fees and net profits tax and charges the city 1.75 percent of what it collects. Sheriff LeeRoy Hardin collects the property tax for a 2-percent fee. The city estimates that will come to between $20,000 and $30,000. 10:43 p.m., 46-year-old female on Sea Biscuit Drive has sharp pain and has been sick all day. 10:51 p.m., caller reported desk clerk from Best Western on Brenda Avenue stated subjects brought an elderly female on numerous medications in with no intention of picking her up. 10:51 p.m., welfare check requested on baby that has been crying for at least an hour on McClure Drive. 11:08 p.m., female in silver passenger car left Applebee's possibly drinking and driving. 11:21 p.m., caller's daughter took property from her residence on Citation Drive while caller was at work.
