"Little Russell" Sims, 71, of Kings Mountain died Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. Born Dec. 30, 1929, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Everett and Eva Gastineau Sims. He was a former employee of National Casket Co. in Lancaster.

Survivors include his wife, Fern Elliott Sims of Kings Mountain; four sons, Kenneth and Jody Sims, both of Kings Mountain, and Ronnie and Donnie Sims, both of Waynesburg; six daughters, Brenda Eldridge of Waynesburg, Linda Working toward the best interests of farmers was the Mercer County native's lifelong pursuit, said Rankin. Balden received the Gamma Sigma Delta Outstanding Service to Agriculture Award in 1990 for outstanding leadership in agriculture and service that improved Kentucky agriculture. He had served as president of the state's Council for Bur-ley Tobacco for several years and was appointed to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture's Advisory Committee on Trade, Tobacco Marketing and Tax. He had been active in Kentucky Farm Bureau, the Danville-Boyle Fair Board, the Kentucky Sheep Association and Danville Rotary Club. Arrangements are incomplete at Stith Funeral Home.

Thelma C. Williams Thelma Crabtree Williams, 89, of Beech Street died Sunday at Charleston Health Care Center. Born Dec. 6, 1911, in Stearns, she was the daughter of the late Dee T. and Jane Martin Crabtree.

She was an employee of GENESCO for 27 years and a home-maker. She Williams was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and North America Benefits Association. She was the widow of Hoyt Williams. Survivors include a son, Lan-don Williams of Stanford; three daughters, Lois W. "Pete" Taylor of Horseshoe, N.C., Marijane W.

Yankey and Jolene W. Hutchinson, both of Danville; nine grandchildren; and 26 greatgrandchildren. 7 She was preceded in death by a son, Billy B. Williams; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Services will be 10 a.m.

Andrew Burdette Jr. LANCASTER Andrew Burdette 77, of Boones Creek Road died Friday at the home of a daughter in Lexington. Born Nov. 18, 1924, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Lettie J. Terrence and Andrew Burdette Sr.

He was the widower of Carrie Mae Burdette. He was retired from state government and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, a Mason and a World War II veteran. Survivors include a daugh- ter, Audrey Johnson of Lexington; a son, Garland Burdette of Lexington; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m.

Clark LANCASTER Green C. Clark, 70, of Lancaster died Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington. Born Jan. 28, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Walker and Susie Mills Clark. He was a retired electrician and a member of Oakside Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ga.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, -mm. Peavey and Elaine Durham, both of Liberty, Dianne Jones of Burnside, and Laverne Duff and Jennifer Carrier, both of Stanford; a brother, Ray Sims of Cincinnati; three sisters, Mat-tie Adams of Kings Mountain, Ora Potter of Fulton, Texas, and Hazel Ashley of Cincinnati; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Sims. Services will be 10 a.m.

Tuesday at Barnett Demrow Funeral Home by Curtis Bree-den. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. today Ha Ralston STANFORD Ila Ralston, 72, of Fort Myers, formerly of Stanford, died Saturday in Monday, April 2, 2001 ADVERTISER INDEX The farming community lost one of its longtime leaders Saturday with the death of William Henry Balden Jr. in Scottsdale, Arizona. Balden," 79, of Boone Trail, Danville, -was a former tobacco farming advocate and farmer. "The Balden tobacco' farmers have a lost a good friend," said Clyde Jackson, whosefriendship with Balden stretched over half a century. Jackson said Balden's efforts on behalf of farming extended past the borders of Kentucky to the corridors of Washington.

One of those efforts was his advocacy of tobacco baling, said Jackson. Initiated in the early 1980s, the process has been a savings to tobacco farmers, said Jerry Rankin, owner of Farmers Tobacco Warehouse. Pointing to their lifelong friendship, Jackson said that he and Balden were neighbors as hisi Caverndale- Farms and Balden's Blue Meadows adjoined each other on Blue-grass Pike. In the early 1960s, the two were partners in Country Seed Cleaners. Ralph J.
