John Green, formerly of Laurel, who is now living In Rush county, was here last Sunday.

Ries, who submitted to a very severe surgical operation in Cinelnuati over three months ago, and had been confined to his bed for many weeks at his home on south Main street, is so improved as to be able to circulate about town among his friends.

Mr. Ries says if he had not had the best surgeon in Cincinnati, he would never have been any better, but Dr. W. E. Bloyer under stood his busiuess.

Miss Mary Senefeld, who worklug in Cincinnati, came home on a visit Saturday, May appar ently In goed health. On Snnday evening. May 2S, she complained of not feeling well; a doctor was called on Monday but she got worse. Rt. Father Schenk was called and gave her the last sacraments.

On Sun day evening, June 4th, she departed thi life well prepared, after much suffering, at the age of IS years. Her disease was pronounced spotted fever, which is contagious. Interment took place in St. Philotneca Cemetery on Lower Wolf Crek Monday afternoon. May she rest iu peace.

Eighteen boys and six girls re ceived their first holy communion at St. Michael's Church, Sunday week. It was a grand sight. Rev. Schenk delivered a touching sermon in English, and the choir sang Mil lard's Mass iu G.

with organ and trombone accompaniment. The venerable School Sisters had the altars and sanctuary decorated in a beautiful style with natural and artificial flowers and wreaths. The church was never so crowded with visitors. It was a day that will al ways be remembered by the com municants. Their names are as follows: La nr a Schum.

Fries, the well-known miller and hardware merchant, was solemnized by a nuptial high mass at the St Michael'sCatholIc Church, yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 8 o'clock. After the ceremony th happy couple, with a number of rel atives and friends repaired to the home of the bride's parents, where an excellent wedding breakfast was served.

In Ihe evening a grand reception was given them by the groom's parents at their palatial residence. They will immediately begin housekeeping in rooms in the Fries block. The Democrat extend congratulations. Presbyterian Church. Regular services each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

and 7:30 Jp. Sabbath school at 2 p. Christian Endeavor meeting at 6:30 p. m. Mid-week prayer meeting, Thursday evening at o'clock.

Carl Mlnton, a promising young lawyer, of Martinsville, was here last Friday on business la connection with the Derbyshire Falls Stone and Cement Co. It does require some nerve for a man to ask a lady to accompany her home from an entertainment to which she has paid her tare and gone alone.
