of the iat Heren'oer'de'snel1 PeaH McKhi On anrt after August 1st, 1917, the Post-Dispatch's unit of count for estimating the cost of want advertisements, set in solid agate type, will be SIX WORDS (of average size) to the LINE instead of seven as heretofore. On the seven-word basis, with the present width of columns, nearly all want ads set SIX "WORDS to the line, so that ads of fourteen words, and paid for as two lines, often occupy the space of three lines, to no material gain to the advertiser but to a decided loss to the publisher. It is therefore to eliminate this loss that the change has been made. The seven-word unit was established fifty or more years ago and was based on the wider newspaper columns. The six-word unit has been in practice among most of the newspapers in the U.

S. for many years, and the Post-Dispatch is one of the last of the metropolitan newspapers to make the change. POST-DISPATCH Want Ad Dept. Classification. PATENTS PERSONAL PIANOS MUSICAL POULTRT.
