2. 1896. Deliveries st Liverpool after various fluc tuations closed qnlet st -64jl0-04d higher than yesterday. Spots wers also quoted higher, closing at Vd adyance. with sales of 8000 bales reported, of which 7200 were American, Cables attributed the higher prices today at Liverpool to the material advance on this side yesterday.

The tone, however, or Manchester was reported discouraging, with buyers holding off. Futures at New York opened 8312 points higher than yesterday's close, bat closed gl2 lower, with sales of 258,000 bales reported. Spots were firm here at previous prices, with sales of 1100 reported on tha spot and 1250 to arrive. There were no deliveries on contracts. In response to Liverpool futures opened points higher here than yesterday close, and soon after advanced 7 points more owing to large buying orders.

Later prices became easier on reports of rains in some parts of Louisiana and Mississippi, and on indications of rains in Texas, and declined 30 points from the highest figures reached and finally dosed at net loss on the day of 14 points, with sales of 53.900 bales reported. Port receipts were 14.844 bales to-day. against 971 this day last year and 646 the year before. 79.499 thus far this week, against 7130 thus far this week last year sod 27,250 the year before, 25.689 sine Sept. 1, against 2038 same time last year and 7795 the year before.
