THI NIWS, oerom IMJ Paris, Denton Battle Tonight to Evade 7-AAAA Cellar The Paris Wildcats anci Dec- ton Broncos clash tonight in Denion in a battle which will see both trying to evade the cellar in the District 7-AAAA standings. loser will definitely drop into last place in the conference, and possibly alone. Most of the losers in last week's 7-AAAA games are favored to take victories tonight. Paris dropped Us ope i ng league tilt last weekend Sherman. 6-0, and needs desperately to grab tonight's verdict.

But Dentan is just as desper-' ate, and possibly even more so. The Broncos lost last weekend to Richardson. 48-19, and have yet to win a game this season. The team was shutout in its first two contests. Despite its 0-3 record, however, the Broncos lurk as a danger in the league, and Coa Dick Mabry's big fear is that they'll pick tonight to come to the" front in the conference battle.

Tough breaks have ha i- capped the Broncos thus far this season. Except for a fumb 1 at the wrong time, or a penalty on a long gainer, and this same type break, the Broncos cou 1 jvist as well be 2-1 at this stage. Only Richardson overwhelmed the Denton club. Also to be remembered i that Denton, in a pre-g a scrimmage, knocked off Ardmore. a top notch Class A club from the Sooner state.

This. too. points out the potential of the Denton team. Two familiar faces will be present in the Denton lineup for tonight's clash. One is Jimmv Harris, the Ne- gro halfback who saw defensive action against the Wilde a last season.

He has been moved to offense this year as an outstanding yard-gainer for the Broncos. The other is Sammy Forester, the 200-pound back who hurt the Cats most Jast season. He individually paced the squad to a 29-20 victory in the 1964 clash before a homecoming crowd in Paris. The Denton team is hungry for victory, and Coach Lewis Whitson has told his gr several times this week that Paris is a team which Denton. can beat if a good effort is shown.

He told the boosters last Monday that the Broncos were to "get after" the Wildcats in tonight's fray. But the Wildcats have a few plans of their own. The Paris attack will be without its most effective runner for tonight's fracas. Charles Austin, the scatback who ran wild in the first two games of the season will be used on defen only. He has a bruised back and this will keep him from logging any offensive time.

Austin, has been good for a large chunk of the Wildcat yardage in the first games, and it'll take a top effort on the part of the other backs tonight to fill Austin's gap. Replacing him will be Larry West and Carroll LaRue, two capable speedsters who could offer a new offensive threat to the opponent's defense. Ronnie Porterfield should also bs in better shape for tonight's game than he was aga i Greenville or Sherman. He was injured in the first game, and has been healing since. missed, any action, however, only limited.

He and Tommy Echols will alternate at the fullback slot. At wingback. the position formerly filled by LaRue, Bill Russo, who has been a standout en defense this year, will take over. And Lonnie Kennemer and Gary Tolleson will fill the quarterback bill. The Paris defense is set and has been proven capable.

It has allowed only two touchdow this season, and has held the opponents as well as could be expected. Even last week in the 6-0 loss to Sherman, the defense played well enough to win. Only the lack of an offensive attack which co 1 generate some points for the Blue and White left the club short. Other than for Austin, all of the Parisians should be in good shape for the contest. Kickoff time is 8 p.m.

The Texans were outmanned by the much larger Ml. -Pleasant squad, and most thought they were whipped when the Travis dub trailed 24-8 with only seven minutes left in the game.

But the Red and White put on a fantastic 2S-pomt rally during a six-minute span in the contest, and walked away with a 36-24 victory. It had to be one of the finest rallies possible on the grid' iron. This equalled even the famous comebacks scored back the "good old days" by the Notre Dame teams. "It proved one thing," Coach J. T.

Davis of Crockett, "who was watching the game, said. "There's no such thing as 'ever being out of a ball game." And Davis' team came up with a rally almost as amazing Hin the third game of the card. I think our dy Koufax and Don Drysdale has dropped the San Francisco Giants perilously close to the canvas for a 10-count.

In fact, the way the pair has been pitching, the Dodgers may not even need them to deliver the knockout blow. That climactic punch conceivably could come tonight following Drysdale's three-hit, 4-0 victory over Milwaukee Thursday night. The triumph, their 13th straight, kept the National League-leading Dodgers two games in front of the Giants, who defeated Cincinnati 5-3, and put the leaders in this position: If the Dodgers, with Claude Osteen pitching. beat the Braves again tonight and the six days that the prodigious pair has pitched consecutive shutouts. "I've also never had a team that finished a season as strong as this one." Drysdale, who threw an average of only 10 pitches an inning against the Braves, said he never felt stronger. He also suggested that trainers Wayne Anderson and Bill Buhler should Cilstrap has received, throughout his coaching, a total of five Coach of the Year awards and in 1961, led his team at Arlington (then a junior college) to a 12-0 victory in the Junior Rose Bowl.

McCo has been, and will long be remembered for his outstanding performance with the Lions of ET in the late fifties. At quarterback, he broke all existing records in rushing and tot a 1 offense. McCord played football for Hawkins at Paris Junior College and then moved to East Texas State. Gilstrap has been with the Rebels for 12 seasons.

Hawkins begins his second at ET as head coach, after succeeding the late J. V. Sikes. Two men with a lot in common may have one more thing in common. They both have fine teams who want to win and which are on the comeback trail after losing efforts last year.
