I mean far out-er. Especially if you're a mummer who went 1o school some place like the neighborhood playhouse and sort of worked her way through waiting on tables and playing a beatnick guitar the village. That weightless feeling is something to get used to. For me it's the second time around in a year.

First. Broadway's big apple, the Antoinette Perry award, in "Take Her, She's Mine." then out here for "The Carpetbaggers," rebound to Broadway for Barefoot in the Fark," and now back to Hollywood for Stanley Kramer's "Snip of Fools" at Columbia. But the second time around can be even scarier. I mean you find yourself getting the beat and reaching for the brass ring. You've got to remember all that seriousness back there, all that dedication, all they taught you.

And it helps a lot if you can remember New Haven. WHEN YOU LEAVE the first'time. they say, Oh. going Hollywood, huh? Going the money-glamour route, sure. Going to get a swimming pool?" Back there the swimming pool is the symbol of everything easy and phony in this town.

So the first time you shun the swimming pool like the hole in the head. The second time you're sent for, maybe they suspect Hollywood is serious about you. Going to get a house?" they ask. "I thought I'd rent one this time, yes. 'Ship of Fools' will take all summer." Summer! Their faces brighten.

Maybe they'll be out to visit you. So thpy grin and beg you sotto voce: "Get a swimming pool." MAN THAT HAS HUMOR.
