AUXILIARY Anniversary Year to Be Celebrated National Convention Will Be Conducted in Columbus NEW YORK, (U.R>—Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Vet- I erans of Foreign Wars will inau-j liurate their twenty-fifth anniver-l sary-year on Thursday, Aug. 25. i The auxiliary which was or-' ganized in 1914 to promote the welfare of veterans who had fought in overseas wars, has made plans for a full year's observance of its silver jubilee anniversary.

Annual Encampment The annual national encampment of the auxiliary will be held simultaneously with that of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Columbus, Ohio, next week. A military ball will open the anniversary The auxiliary was founded in Pittsburgh with representatives from fewer than a dozen of Veterans of Foreign War posts. Today, its membership of 100,000 is divided among 2,500 auxiliaries in every state and the territories. Membership in the auxiliary is limited to mothers, wives, sisters and "daughters of American soldiers who have fought on foreign soil. Scrolls of Honor As a special feature of the jubilee year, the auxiliary is conducting a national mobilization of its membership.

W. G. Wilson of Audubon, formerly of Hampton. After a wedding trip to the Black Hills, the couple will be at home in Ames where Mr. Wilson is head of the art section of the Iowa State college printing department.

Because the public usually associates all war veterans in the same group, the members of the auxiliary will join in a national campaign of public information to assist in distinguishing their sons, husbands, fathers and Possessions from Iowa's Past Shown Period Rooms at State Fair to Be Treasuries of History DES MOINES Hundreds of priceless treasures of pioneer Iowa have been unearthed from early Iowa homes by clubs of the state for the "period rooms" of 100 years at the Centennial State Fair here this week, according to final details of the I room plans announced by fair officials Tuesday. Included in the five rooms will be the favorite chair of the late Senator Dolliver, an old wooden cradle from the Brookhart family of Washington, a personally autographed photograph of Abraham Lincoln, one of the first melodeons brought to Iowa before the Civil war, a prayer book used by Abraham Lincoln and Ann Rutledge, a deerhide trunk brought to Iowa in 1837, and hundreds of other relics of early Iowa days, assembled from all parts of the state. And Foot Warmers In the "pioneer" room will be an old clock reel, a chair made by the first editor of the Burlington Hawk-Eye, an old iron kettle used in 1835, tallow candles used in tlje first Presbyterian church in. Burlington, and old-time charcoal foot warmers.

In the "Civil War" room will be old tapestries, one of the first marble mantels brought to Iowa from Italy, horsehair sofas, gas chandeliers, bronze statuettes, and other antiques of the period. In contrast with the early Iowa rooms will be a "room of today," built along "functional" lines, and equipped with modern American furniture. The centennial state fair will open here. Wednesday night with the presentation the statewide historical pageant, "Cavalcade of Iowa." With over 1,000 characters, 300 musicians, and in IB episodes, the pageant will trace the past 100 years of Iowa history to provide centennial theme for the exposition.

Veterans Daughters Conduct Meeting at 40 and 8 Clubrooms Daughters of Union Veterans met Monday evening at the 40 and 8 clubrooms after a summer vacation of two months. Mrs. S. A. Bemis presided at the meeting during which it was voted to send for a flag to be presented to the Grant school auditorium in the near future.

Plans, are under way for the fall carnival to be held Sept. 26 at the clubrooms. The carnival will be in the evening with the bingo game, fish pond, fortune-telling and the like. At the close of the evening, a picnic supper was served by Mrs. O.

S. Belseth, Mrs. Iva Burgart, Mrs. Dora Liesveld, Miss Marie Fuller and Miss Iris Bemis. A handkerchief shower was held in honor of the servers.

Mrs. Emma Wells was an honored guest. She is here for the summer after a two years' absence. MRS. HOUGHTALING TO BE HONORED Mrs.

Mary Knight, Mrs. F. L. Curtis and Mrs. M.

Miss Myrtle Cardey, 107 Thirteenth street northeast, is spend- WIFE PRESERVERS Calmar Couple Wed 50 Years Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pletka Observe Wedding Anniversary and Mrs. Frank Pletka quietly celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home here Sunday with their children and grandchildren, as guests. Mr.

Pletka was born July 3,. 1868 at Spillville. He made his home in Spillville until 42 years ago when he came to Calmar. For the past 40 years he has served the town of Calmar as city marshal and street commissioner. Mrs.

Pletka was born as Barbara Dvorak on Oct. 10, 1869 in Spillville. They were united in marriage Aug. 21, 1888 at St. Wenceslaus church in Spillville by the Rev.

Thomas Beily. They are the parents of three daughters, Louise, Mrs. F. Uher Clara at home and Ethyls of Chicago. They also have three grandchildren, Dorothy Uher, R.

N. of Chicago, Marian and Robert Uher of Calmar. Irene Capesius Is Honored Guest at Shower at Mullans Miss Irene Capesius was honored at a miscellaneous shower given Monday evening by Miss Kathryn Mullan at her home, 52G Fifth street southeast. There were 30 guests and the time was spent playing court whist with prizes going to Miss Capesius and Miss A yellow and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations with baskets of garden flowers arranged throughout the rooms. Karen Ann Connelly presented the gifts to Miss Capesius who will be married in September to Leland Hurley.

Out of town guests were Mrs. Frank Capesius and daughter. Evelyn, Mrs. Julius Winkle and Miss A. of Algona.

Upper Room Class Meets for Picnic at Park Pavilion Sixty-five members of the Upper Room class of the Church of Christ and their families met at the pavilion in East park Monday evening for a picnic dinner. Announcement was made a cafeteria supper and ice cream social to be held by group 1 of the Christian Workers Tuesday evening on the lawn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Andersen, 220 Taylor avenue northwest. The next regular class business meeting will be Sept.

T. Slat- lenau, became the bride of Clarence Miemeyer of Garner, Aug. 20, at the parsonage at Klemme with the Rev. Mr. Grosshuesch reading the vows.

They were attended by the bridegroom's brother and sister- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miemeyer. The bride was grad- lualed from the Crystal Lake liigh school and has been telephone operator at Crystal Lake. The bridegroom was graduated from the Garner high school.
