Mary Italian Catholic Church. The Rev. James Lavezzari, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was in the Cathedral cemetery, in Scranton. with her mother, Mrs.

Guests will number 50. 85 FAMILIES i ARE Disabled Veterans Play Santa Role to Needy Folk -Party Held for Children Eighty-five needy families of disabled American war veterans were assured of good and substantial Christmas dinners today by Wyoming Valley Chapter No.

9, Disabled American Veterans of the World War. Baskets and en rl hoard boxes, filled to overflow lun with foodstuffs, were distributed to representatives of the destitute families during the day as they applied at the North Washington Street headquarters, The allotments were delivered in many instances to widows of veterans who were unable to appear. Equal portions were allowed each family as follows: A 10-pound ham, one Dushei or potatoes grocery order of butter, coffee, sugar, prunes, beans, milk, cabbage and apples. Wyoming Valley Chapter has made slmiliu- distributions among it needy comrades for the last fifteen years. Provisions are made for the dinners In the organization's annual budget.

Approximately $225 was spent for this year's dinners. Commander Charles B. Sloane was general chairman of the Christmas dinner committee and was assisted by William Bailey, chairman of the chapter's executive HELPED BY VETERANS points to his credit and was able to make points from all angles of the loorl- Coach Sudol was also -a high scorer, scoring 14 points. The Pittston Jewish Flv Journeyed td Dupont yesterday afternoon and defeated the Sacred Heart Juniors in a closely contested basketball game. Lokuta was high scorer for Dupont, scoring 7 points, while Weisberger and Clarence Levin played well for the visitors, scoring 6 and 4 points, respectively. On Furlough Joseph Mihalka, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mihalka of 201 Lincoln street Is spending a five day furlough here.

He is a member of the Citizen Conservation Camp stationed at Kane, Pennsylvania. Kelly Mrs. Catherine Kelly, widow of the late M. A. Kelly, died yesterday morning at the family home on Warren street, West Pittston, after a short Illness. Mrs.

Kelly was one of West pittston's best known reel dents' and her death will be mourned by a legion of friends and acquaintances. Mrs. Kelly was born in Hones dale, the daughter of the late Wil liam and Catherine Griffin. She was 79 years of age and was a mem ber of St. John's R.

C. Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Woman's Guild. She was a sister of the late Rev. J. J.

Griffin, for mer pastor' of St. Aloyslus Church of Wilkes-Barre. She is survived by the following children: Mary, John and William G. Kelly at home, and Mrs. James JJ.

Jordan of Scranton. The lun eral will be held Wednesday morn ing at 9 o'clock. There will be requiem mass at John's R. Church-at 9:80 o'clock, after which interment will be made in the church cemetery. Teachers To Get Months' Pay, Michael Purcell, treasurer of Jen kins Township School District, has revealed a check for $9,500 from the State Department of Publio Instruc tion which will enable the district to pay teachers another month's sal ary some time this week.

The teachers received six weeks' pay on Friday made possible by the payment of 120,000 on the 1934 taxes by the Pittston Company. Brief Mention. McDonnell Funeral The funeral of Miss Mary McDonnell was held this morning from the home of her sister, Mrs. M. Kelly of 8 Johnson Street. At I o'clock the funeral cortege moved to St. John's R.

Church, where a requiem mass was celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Neary, C. of Philadelphia. Interment was in St. John cemetery.

Birthday Party Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ludden of 18 Landon Street, entertained number of young folks at their home Saturday afternoon in honor of their son, Carl, who observed his seventh birthday anniversary. Miss Olive Smiles, who conducts a kindergarten in this city, directed the children in the playing of games. An enjoyable time was had by all pres ent.

The midnight mass at the Holy Mother of Sorrow Church Is held annually on Christmas Eve and will be featured this year with the White Eagle Band on the program. The Frederick Chopin, under Prof. Drost, has prepared special selections for the event. The midnight mass will be celebrated by the Rev. V.

Januszewskl, pastor, who will be assisted by Albert Liska, a student at the Savanna Seminary, where he is studying for the priesthood. Sermons will be delivered by the pastor and Mr. Liska. On Christmas Day a low mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock, with a high mass immediately following at 10:30 o'clock. The Rev.

Januszewskl and Mr. Liska will officiate at the mass and will also deliver sermons. At 7 o'clock in the evening vesper services will be held. On Wednesday, St. Stephen Day.

Local Man Arrested Joseph O'Donnell. 27, of 123 Seneca street, will be arraigned before Burgess James Dougherty of Duryea this evening on charges of assaulting a police officer and ignoring a traffic signal. O'Donnell la charged with an attack on Officer William Tigue of the Duryea police after the latter chased him to North Main street, this city, in order to present him with a ticket for ignoring a traffic light. Sergeant Wycallis accompanied Tigue In the chase and it was necessary for Tigue to use his night stick to subdue O'Donnell. O'Donnell was treated at Pittston Hospital for a laceration over the right eye.

i Wesley E. Wear Dies Wesley E. Wear, 15, a sophomore at West Pittston high school, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and. Mrs.

Harold Wear, 108 North street, that borough, after six months' Illness. The youth was popular among his school mates and was affiliated with the Y. M. C. West Pittston Hl-Y Club and St.

John's Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he Is survived by a brother, Harold. Also his grandfather Conrad Zang. The funeral was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services were In charge of the Rev.

Christopher Rose, 77, of 321 Mer cer avenue, West Pittston, died at midnight as the result of a heart at tack. Mr. Rose had been in ill health for the past few weeks, but his death was not expected. He had resided in West Pittston for many years and up until seven years ago was employed as a car penter at the Exeter colliery of the Lehigh Valley Coal Company. His wife died two years ago.

Sur viving are two children, Chester and Minnie. Miss Mary McDonnel Dies Miss Mary McDonnell. R. X. died Saturday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs.

M. F. Kelly of jonnson street following a linger Ing illness. Miss McDonnell was born in Pittston, the daughter of the late Edward J. and Sara (Bohan) Me- Donnell.

Practically all of her life was spent in Pittston, where she was highly regarded by all who knew her. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital and the Pier- pont Morgan Hospital of New York City. She worked for some time in New York City with the Red Cross and as district nurse. She had many friends In New York.

She is survived by the following sisters ana brother: Mrs. William F. Connery, New York City; Mrs, A. B. Terrett and Edward McDon nell of New York City; Mrs.
