struction should be completed by the time school starts the third week in August the architects said Principal Charles Edwards said riday that it is difficult to say ex actly how the extra rooms would be used Increases in enrollment may mean the rooms would be needed for regular classrooms he said Edwards said additional rooms may be needed for grades 4 and 5 next year Some special pro grams like the migrant program the gifted and talented program the remediation program and the Chapter I program also need a classroom Edwards said In another area Bonnie Mix the curriculum coordinator discussed how expensive textbooks are becoming year books are becoming more and more expen sive but the money we receive from the students and the state is not increasing at the same she said riday The high school does not receive any state money for new books and the student rental fee covers one third to one half of the cost she said or example last year the school system received $14000 in high school rental fees and the new language arts textbooks for that group cost $24000 remarks were made in in projects forming the board that the new science textbooks had been selected New books are selected on a six year cycle Last year was the first time that the school system did not receive all the money it needed from the state to buy new textbooks Mix said The system had to use the $44000 it received last year to buy three types of language arts tex tbooks and no money was left over to pay for the consumable materials such as workbooks that the early grades use Mix said she doubts that school system will receive enough money for the science textbooks She predicts that the science books will cost $28000 and another $12000 is needed for consumable materials such as workbooks for the early
