Page 2 Pharos-Tribune, Logansport, Indiana, Monday, July 18, 1988 Obituaries Althea May Cox Oris 'Bob' D. Warner AKRON Services for Althea May Cox, 81, Rt. 2, Akron, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Arkon Church of God. She died at 6:55 p.m.

Saturday in South Bend Memorial Hospital. She was born April 19, 1907, in Akron to William and Ina Rickle Clinker. She was married Oct. 27, 1923, in Rochester to Paul Cox, who survives. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Olive Bethel Church of God, northwest of Akron. Also surviving are nine daughters, Mary Etta Basham, Mishawaka, Helen Cox, Rt. 2, Akron, Genavee Snvely, Wabash, Gail Grabley, Albion, Willodean Zollman, New Albany, Pauline Claxton, Akron, Patsy Carpenter, Leesburg, Jean Kerby, Galveston, and Jane Kartzer, Macy; three sons, Milton and Floyd, both of Rt. 2, Akron, and Dale, Rochester; 36 grandchildren; and 50 great- grandchildren. A daughter, three sons, a brother, and a great-grandchild preceded in death.

The Rev. Dave Collett will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Hartzler Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services Wednesday in the church.

JULY 16,1988 Jack L. Green PERU Jack L. Green, 68, of 522 Longview Drive, died at 1:22 a.m. today in Howard Community Hospital, Kokomo. Arrangements are pending at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.

At the Iron Horse Festival Open Chess Tournament at Four County Counseling Center, six of the state's top 10 rated chess players competed in the inaugural tournament sponsored by the center, Logansport Chess Club, Corral Supermarket and Northwestern Mutual Insurance. Thirty-one players from throughout the state competed. The winner of the open division was Peter Berelos of Munster. He won $200 for his finish.

Mike Fundenburger of Indianapolis won the reserve division and $100 for his title. John Gilmore of Howe won the booster division and received $50 for his finish. Local players fared well in the tourney. They included Tom Byers who finished second in the reserve division and Gary Fox who finished third. Joe Peterson was second in the booster division.

Dr. Ruben Calisto of Logansport and Kim Crimmins of Lucerne tied for the top honors in the unrated players section. Competition ended at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Saturday's rounds lasted until 2:30 a.m.

Sunday. Lester Van Meter was the tournament director. Glen Donley of Logansport, a former Indiana state champion, watched the tournament. Bauer was scheduled to meet with the festival secretary- treasurer Jackie Gochenour today to discuss the festival. Although all the bills for the 1988 festival will not be received for several weeks, Bauer said this year's festival is expected to break even financially.

Tuesday in Owens Funeral Home. He died early Sunday in Community Hospital, Anderson, after a brief illness. He was born June 24, 1916, in Winamac to Thomas and Huldah Clark Warner. He was married May 31, 1934, to Lucille Wilson, who survives. He was a farmer and a self-employed carpenter and mechanic.

He also had worked for the former Kyle Funeral Home in Alexandria. He was a member of Christian Congregation Church of Alexandria. He was a member of the Limberlost Travel Trailer Club and had served as a volunteer fireman and a civil defense police officer for a number of years. Also surviving are two sons, Marvin, Alexandria, and Roger, Anderson; two daughters, Janese Saubert and Linda Cleaver, both of Alexandria; a brother, Loran, Anderson; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The Rev.

Jerry Young and the Rev. Clifton Richardson will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Also surviving are her mother, 106 Crest a daughter, Barbara Winegardner, 523 E. Main two brothers, Nicholas Quaglio, Lakewood, and Frank Quaglio, 715 Wilkinson a sister, Margaret Murray, 516 E. Roselawn a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. A son and a brother preceded in death. Services will be held at 11 a.m.

Wednesday in All Saints Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Moran officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Kroeger Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Daughters of Isabella memorial service.

Baker, who died Aug. 28,1970. She retired from RBM Controls and the Logansport State Hospital. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Truman, Rt.

4, Logansport, and Harold, Millersburg, Iowa; a daughter, Barbara Goodman, Tucson, nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild. A grandson preceded in death. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Ingle officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to a p.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel. JULY 17,1988 Don 'Tub' Swartzlander MICHIGAN CITY Services for Don "Tub" Swartzlander, 74, of 2811 Brentwood Way, were held at 11 a.m. Friday in Carlisle Funeral Home.

He died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony Hospital. He was born Feb. 21,1914, in Logansport to Henry and Fern Tolen Swartzlander.

He was married to Lucille Conrad, who survives. He had lived in Michigan City since 1936. He founded Swartzlander Motors in 1957 and worked as a Pontiac-Cadillac dealer for 45 years. He was a 1932 graduate of Logansport High School. Also surviving are two sons, Robert and Jack; two sisters, Pauline Lenon, 515-13th Logansport, and Opal Herron, Warsaw.

A brother preceded in death. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. JULY 13,1988 Flossie Ulrich Flossie Ulrich, 91, formerly of 728-15th died at 4 a.m. Sunday in Chase Convalescent Center. She was born July 4, 1897, in Miami County.

She was married to Albert Ulrich, who died in 1970. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. Surviving are a son, Donald, Chase Convalescent Center; two daughters, Ruth Tatman, 1515 Smead and Lenore Finder, 3216 Summit nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A son preceded in death. Services will be held at 10 a.m.

Tuesday in Kroeger Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Moran officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
