Highlight of the evening was the awarding of Life rank to Jeffery Messersmith. This makes Jeffery the highest ranking scout in our troop including the scoutmaster who never got past Star rank.

The scoutmaster was slightly relieved when the district executive, Bob Collison, admitted he too had only reached Star rank while his son went on to Eagle Scout. It was decided that the troop would go to Cary Scout Camp July 28 to August 3. Starting Tuesday, March 12 and on each Tuesday and Thursday evening thereafter, twelve of the scouts will be taking Spanish lessons conducted by Lupe Messersmith. This is not a part of scouting and was requested by the boys. If a scoutmaster's opinion amounts to anything, this one is all for anything of educational value and he thinks it is pretty wonderful when the young folks themselves ask for such lessons who sez kids don't amount to nothin' nowadays? Thanks to our district executive we have twelve boys taking swimming lessons each Saturday at the YMCA pool in Lafayette.

Sometime during the week a volunteer will knock on your door and ask for a donation for scouting. This is the money that goes to council and keeps scouting going. The money is used to pay executives. onice personnel, maintain our council camp, office expenses, etc. Goodland has not raised a cent to support council in three years but even so, council has carried us and maintained scouting in Goodland with a Cub Pack and an Explorer Post.

Please be as generous as you can when the volunteer calls on you, we need scouting for our boys and with 28 boys registered we take a fair share from council.
