The carousel operator would keep the balance of the revenues from carousel admissions. County officials have said they are not sure how much money the carousel operator could expect to make.

The previous operator charged 35 cents a ride. The county plans to spend more than $400,000 on the carousel plaza, which would involve installation of decorative paving, benches and landscaping. Two picnic shelters near the carousel also would be renovated. The County Legislature voted this summer to speed up the project in the hopes it could be completed for celebrations in the park next July during Rochester's sesquicentenniaL Keefe said county officials hope to meet that deadline, but are not sure they can. The first bidding drew no takers.

1 After a Democrat and Chronicle story about the lack of bidders, a second bid advertisement drew 25 inquiries but only two bids. Keefe and Calvin Reynolds, county parks director, have recommended the bids be rejected. Keefe said the main reason for his recommendation is the lateness of the cur-pent season and the uncertain prospects for next summer. He also said yesterday that the innual payment the bidders offered the county was not very high. One bidder, identified on bid documents as Ronald and Jane Villano of Greece, offered to pay the county $500 for the right to run the carousel this year.
