LEGACY Carlson, Theo Hilton, N.Y.: Theo Carlson, 92, of Brockport, and formerly of Smethport, went home to be with the Lord on Friday (Dec. 31, 2010). Born Theo Alberta Herzog on July 26, 1918, to Robert and Eva Davis Herzog of Colegrove, she residL ed most of her life in Smethport. She married Edward Walter "Pete" Carlson on Sept. 30, 1944.

He preceded her in death in 1993. In addition to being a homemaker, she managed a school cafeteria, managed a local grocery store deli, catered weddings and other events, and served as an EMT in the Smethport community until moving to Brockport in 1995. She was a member of the Smethport United Methodist Church and also attended the East Smethport United Christian Church. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking and working as an EMT. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Gude, Bonnie (Terry) Whitney and Connie (Ken) Lawrence; six grandchildren, Brett Whitney, Janna (Andrew) Whitney Moss, Cherilyn (Mark) Whitney Howard, Derek (Julie) Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, and Wesley Lawrence; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Herzog; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Kenneth "Baldy," and Fred. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14 at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Hilton, and at 1 p.m.

Walt was a U.S. Army veteran and graduate of East Rochester High School and Rochester Institute of Technology. He served honorably and was discharged from the U.S army in 1956 and moved to San Francisco where he joined the staff of Penn Mutual Insurance, serving in accounting and executive positions until his retirement in the 1990s. He further studied auditing and finance at University of San Francisco. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Palm Springs.

Walt was a joyful light in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He is remembered for his tremendous love, compassion and good humor. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle to the Chudyk, Kreger and Morano families, and he is deeply missed. Predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Andrew Chudyk; brothers, Michael and Nicholas Chudyk; sister, Ann Kreger. Survived by his lifelong friend, William Volkmar; devoted sister, Marian (Sam) Morano and family; beloved sister-in-law, Betty Chudyk and family; many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

Joan Elizabeth (Plassche) Gray ended her fight against cancer on January 6th, 2011 with her daughter by her side. She is survived by her brother Neil (Doris) Plassche of Sodus; daughters Tamara L.

(Bob) West Palm Beach, FL: Formerly of Rochester, passed away January 1, 2011 in West Palm Beach, Florida with his family at his side. He is survived by a son, Brian R.

(Mary Anne), a daughter, Maureen B. Cascone (Neil), and four grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Lauren and Kaitlyn all of whom reside in West Palm Beach, Florida. Bob enjoyed 54 years of marriage to his beloved partner and wife, Mary J. (Molly) prior to her death in 2004. His older brother, Jimmie, a resident of Webster, also preceded Bob in death in 2002.

Mr. Hanley is also survived by brothers-inlaw, Francis Qualey and Thomas Pinkney, sister-in-law, Eleanor Hanley, along with many good friends, all of whom also reside in the Rochester area, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hanley served at one time as Vice President and Manager of the corporate banking department at Lincoln First Bank, now J.P. Morgan.

In 1977, he accepted an appointment to the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C. where he served as Associate Regional Director for the regulation of Farm Credit System institutions in the southeast United States. During his tenure, he appeared before the U.S. House of Representatives; Committee on Banking. Mr.

Hanley also served with honor in the U.S. Navy in World War Il and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars." Hanss, Eloise Yorktown, VA: Age 99, joined her husband, Will on Christmas Day. The Christ Child Jesus was born to show her the way home. Eloise is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay Griffith of Paige, TX, Barbara Carroll and her husband, Tom who was like a son of Yorktown, VA; 6 grandchildren; and 2 loving great-granddaughters. She also leaves her beloved cat companions, Bud and Charlie.

In Rochester, NY she leaves her beloved brother-in-law, Jerry Hanss; many nieces, nephews and her dearest friend, Lisa. There are many many more friends near and far who over almost 10 decades endeared themselves to her. To them the family sends heartfelt thanks for their support and friendship over the years. With special thanks to her angels of mercy, Dr. Michael Joynes, Mary Madden and Sentara Hospice Caregivers.

Sarah is survived by her daughter Susan Harper Speer of Springfield, Ohio, and son Robert George (Cathy) Harper of Woolwich, Maine; her grandchildren Kristianna Kay Harper of Bellevue, Nebraska, Robert James Harper of Woolwich, Maine, Katrina Speer (James Maccalous) of Englewood, Colorado, Laura (Ben) Mowen of Columbus, Ohio, Jessica Speer of Springfield, Ohio; great-granddaughters Haylie Maccalous and Emily Mowen; sister Dorothy "Lee" Johnson of Ontario, NY. Sarah was predeceased by her husband Robert M. Harper, and by her parents Vira and Jasper Vanderzille. A 1952 graduate of Sodus Central School, Sarah was a lifelong resident of Sodus. She had worked at the Murphy Photographic Studio for 26 years, as well as operating her own business "Knits by Sarah" for nearly 30 years.

Sarah was an active volunteer in the following organizations; Sodus Garden Club, Sodus Lioness Club, Sodus Free Library where she held knitting classes, past President of the TWIG Association at Myers Community Hospital, Eastern Star, Sodus Point Historical Society, Sodus Point United Methodist Church, Sodus Point Neighborhood Association, Walk to Emmaus, Sodus Point Historical Society, Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club and the American Cancer Society. Visitation will not be observed, a Memorial Service celebrating Sarah's life will be held on Saturday, January 29th beginning at 2 p.m. from the Sodus Point United Methodist Church, 7490 South Ontario Street, Sodus Point, NY, where a reception for family and friends will be held immediately following. Born in Batavia, New York, Miss Harvey received her Bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary and her Master's degree from Syracuse University. She joined the staff of Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey (then, the New Jersey College for Women, and now, part of Rutgers University), where she served as Director of Admissions from 1956 to 1970. From 1970 to 1986, she was a program administrator at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. Miss Harvey is survived by her sister-in-law: Elizabeth Harvey of Rochester, New York; two nephews: Robert Harvey and his wife, Judy, of Bingham Farms, Michigan and Douglass Harvey and his wife, Linda, of Londonderry, New Hampshire; a niece: Anne Harvey of Rochester, New York; and several great and great-great nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Douglass and Robert, and niece Katherine (Harvey) Lalik. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Janice Harvey is planned for a later date. Northport, NY: 64, of Northport, New York passed away on Saturday December 11, 2010 at The Hospice Inn, Huntington Twsp, NY. He worked for 29 years at Nikon, Melville, NY where he held the title of Manager, Repair Administration. Prior to working at Nikon he worked for Bausch and Lomb in Rochester. David grew up in Chili, New York and received his high school diploma from Churchville -Chili High School, his Bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo, and his Masters in Business Administration from The University of Rochester. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam war.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling throughout the world. David is survived by his sister Susan E. Henderson of Chili, brother Warren R. Henderson and his wife Karen of Allentown, PA, niece Emily Henderson of Hoboken, NJ, and nephew W. He was president of Metal Arts Company and Campus Crafts Inc. One of his favorite pastimes was being with his fellow antique dealers and friends.

John was a member of Rotary, Phi Kappa Sigma, Genesee Valley Antique Dealers Association, Palmyra Historical Society, and was a lifelong member of The Baptist Temple. There will be no calling hours, and interment will be at the convenience of the immediate family.
