Ron Dayne -7 1996 PARADE ail-American, 1999 Heisman Trophy-winner At the University of Wisconsin, Dayne became college football's career rushing leader, with more than 7000 yards. 75 times for 507 yards and 8 touchdowns, as well as returned 12 kickoffs for 233 yards. On defense, B.J. also scored a touchdown on an interception. He has a 3.7 average and plans to attend the University of Texas.

Our top lineman is also our biggest: Kwame Harris of Newark, at 6 feet 7 and 322 pounds. "In his first three years, Kwame was an all-state player," 52 touchdowns in two years. His coach, Tim Cross, says: "Physically, the size speed ratio sets Marcus apart from most kids he's a big, fast kid." In addition, he runs the 400 meters in track and has a good chance to break the state record this year. Sam led his team to a 12-0 season and the state championship. He received the Tri-State Heisman trophy. All told, he has rushed for 7581 yards and 99 touchdowns. "Sam is that rare combo of speed, strength he bench-presses 335 pounds and size," says his coach, Artie Troilo. "He can go around you or over you." Sam plans to attend Ohio State.

Our top receiver, Brandon Willis Johnson of Texas, is 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds. His coach, David Thompson, says J. "just dominates" to make the big plays. "He's the leading receiver in the history of South Grand Prairie High School." This season, B.J. caught 71 passes for 1749 yards and scored 20 touchdowns.

In all, he has 135 catches for 3059 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also has carried the ball passing and 2 touchdowns in that game. His grades are good too, 3.8, and the University of Florida snagged him. Marcus Houston of Thomas Jefferson High in Denver heads our list of running backs. This year he gained 1 743 yards on 23 1 carries, scoring 23 touchdowns.

He also caught 14 passes for 268 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in leading his team to its league championship. He rushed for also our No. 1 QB. "Brock's intangibles set him apart his coachability, his desire to win, his incredible competitiveness and work ethic," says his coach, Dennis Dunn. This year, Brock threw for 4219 yards and 36 touchdowns (five in one game).

His team came from behind to win the Louisiana championship game, 20-14, over West Monroe, the three-time defending champs. Brock had 232 yards PARADE MAGAZINE JANUARY 30, 2000 PAGE.
