Honors rAmati Quartet performs tonight at IUP The Indiana University of Pennsylvania music department will present the "Amati Quartet" in concert Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 8:30 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall. Celebrated throughout Italy and most of Europe for for its perfection of ensemble and artistic mastery, the Amati Quartet has an equally distinguished reputation on the concert stage and in the recording studio. The quartet made its debut at LaPiccola Scala in Milan.

Within a year, the artists had performed in many of the most prestigious European music centers, among them the Accademia De Santa Cecilia in Rome and Salle Gaveau in Paris. The quartet is named for the 1679 Amati violin played by Juan Carlos Rybin. in the program will be Donizetti's "String Quartet No. 5 in minor," and "Quartet No. 2, 'Intimate The program will cpriclude with the "String Quartet in Minor, Op.

51, No. 1," by Brahms. Jackson holds Open House APOLLO In conjunction with American Education Week, the Jackson Elementary School will hold an open house Thursday, Nov. 17, during the school day. Parents are invited to visit the school and attend some of their children's classes.

Lauth, president of the Community College of Allegheny County since 1980, has resigned, according to school officials.

Lauth, whose resignation took effect Nov. 1, is leaving to become director of seminars and workshops for the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges in Washington, D.C. Lauth has been on leave from CCAC for the past year to work on a national assignment for the association's Job Training Partnership Act. College officials said Monday that John W. Kraft, the school's executive vice president, will succeed Lauth.
