Greece: James passed peacefully on October 24, 2011, at the age of 87. He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Purcell) Flanagan.

He is survived by his son, Edward Flanagan (Linda) r. of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Megan (Robert) Griffith and great-grandson Aaron Griffith of Macedon, NY and Erinn (William) Sauer of Washington, DC, and sisters-in-law, Sally Flanagan and Patricia Wahl; several nieces nephews. Vay-Schleich Meeson Sharff (Matt), Jocelyn Mason and Ian Neilson (Fran); two Great Granddaughters, Magdalena and Abigail Sharff; step grandchildren, Ryan Kelsey Finn, Kinsey Lynch, Benjamin Finn, Lisa Powers, Gordon Potter; nieces and nephews, many friends and her beloved cat Freddy. A lifelong Rochesterian, Helen lived a full life; she worked for Eastman Kodak in the 40's, ran "Mama Balch's" day care from her home for many years before going back to work as the first secretary of School Without Walls from which she retired in 1985. She loved to travel, enjoyed theater, music, a good book and the challenge of trying something new! An Irish girl thru thru, there was always a fun twinkle in her eyes, she loved a good joke. She will be missed by those she left behind. Helen lived a great life, and though it was often difficult, she took it on the chin and looked to her next adventure.

She did the same with this last earthly adventure and we are sure she is rejoicing at seeing her family, friends, and pets again. We would like to thank the wonderful staff and the Episcopal Church Home for all their loving attention to our Mom. Predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Irma Heiligman. Warren was a graduate of SUNY Brockport (Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree); retired from the Rochester City School District after having served 32 years as a teacher and then as a principal at schools 50, 14 and 44. A lifelong lover of music, he was a Charter member of the Gentleman Songsters and subsequently the Songsters, the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus and several church choirs. He directed the choir at Dewey Presbyterian Church and the chorus at A service celebrating Warren's life will be held at the Perinton Presbyterian Church, 6511 Pitts-ford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY on Saturday, November 26 at 2 PM, with a reception immediately following the service at the church. Alta began working full-time as a bookkeeper at age 14. After her marriage at 26 and raising her children, she earned a high school diploma and returned to work until age 75. Alta worked at JR White Jewelers, Lawyers Cooperative, Allied Forces, Rochester Homebuilders among others.

She played basketball (center) as a youth, won NYS women's archery awards, taught chair caning, sewing, canning and other courses through the Cornell Cooperative Extension in the 1950 was a member of the N. Chili Quilt Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and N. Chili First Methodist Church. She and Walter loved the out of doors and frequently canoed in their canvas old town canoe, camping by the water's edge. In their later years they purchased a used Volkswagen camper and toured the United States with their dog, Gus.
