DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE DemocratanfJChronicle.com NOVEMBFR 3-9. TV WEEK 45 Trudi Ames, Pamelyn Ferdin were teen stars 30 years ago DAVID INMAN Contact him at: GNS TV 0 and A The Courier-Journal 525 W. Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202 Inmandavidai prodigy.net As a real person, she played Edna, daughter of Felix Ungar (Tony Randall) on the ABC sitcom The Odd Couple in the early 1970s, and Paul Lynde's daughter on his short-lived 1973 ABC sitcom The Paul Lynde Show. She also appeared in the movies What a Way to Go, The Reluctant Astronaut and The Toolbox Murders. Lately she's gotten back into providing animated voices and was featured on the WB series Detention, which ran in 1999-2000.

Question: I have a trivia question for you. Dan Aykroyd used to have a show where his character was a man of the cloth who had a couple of kids and he rode a Harley Davidson. Can you tell me the name of this show? Answer: The show was called Soul Man, and it ran on ABC in Question: Back in the late '60s or early '70s, there were two actresses who seemed to be everywhere on TV. One was a teenage blonde that I remember mostly as Candy on Bachelor Father and as Ann-Margret's friend in Bye, Bye Birdie. The other girl was younger, and I remember her as being the voice of Lucy on a couple of Charlie Brown specials.

Being a kid myself, I found them both to be very annoying. What happened to their acting careers? Answer: Well, they were doing just fine until you expressed your disapproval, and now their careers are in the dumper. Hope you're happy. Actually, the actresses Trudi Ames and Pamelyn Ferdin are, like many former child and teen performers, no longer active in show business. Ames, whose real name is Trudi Ziskind, experienced a spurt of employment in the early to mid-1960s.

In addition to her role as Ursula in Bye, Bye Birdie, she played the girlfriend of Debbie Watson on the NBC sitcom Karen, which ran in 1964-'65. She also appeared on episodes of Green Acres, Please Don't Eat the Daisies and The Dick Van Dyke Show. Her last appearance to date was in the 1968 film The Impossible Years. As for Ferdin, she was much busier than Ames, especially in providing cartoon voices. She was a regular on the animated shows Sealab 2020 and The Roman Holidays and in the 1973 animated film version of Charlotte's Web.
