RsUi In tho eiotie surroundings of fh Trenholm East Inn and enjoy younelf with thi delightful muiie of tho Ken Purtll Trio TRENHOLM EAST INN! FORT WORTH (CPD The flying Wallendas yesterday performed their "human pyramid" act in public for the first time since they fell while performing 22 months ago, killing two members of the troupe. They did the act during a special afternoon performance for underprivileged children. A net was stretched beneath the wire.

The Wallendas are appearing at the 21st annual Shrine circus. The act went off without a hitch, despite a scare during again was "to show that we still can do it." Several weeks ago the pyramid collapsed during a rehearsal at Sarasota, but the wire was only 12 feet off the ground. Herman Wallenda, Karl's brother, is 62 and the eldest member of the troupe. He said he felt as fit as ever but planned to retire. Karl said that "after Fort Worth I intend to cut the act to four people and do a less dangerous pyramid on bicycles." He said the decision to use the net for the Fort Worth performance was his because "should I be responsible for what happened in Detroit happening again people would spit in my face on the streets." There actually are eight persons used In the act.

One girl stays on the platform to remove the chair that the uppermost Wallenda sits in. Any idea the troupe was accident-prone was scoffed at by Karl, who said one reason they would try the human pyramid They were rehearsing Tuesday night 36 feet above the floor when an electrician turned out the lights at the Will Rogers Coliseum to test them. The seven Wallenda troupe members froze on the wire. The performers did not move again until the lights were turned on. Karl Wallenda, 58, who originated the act in Germany in 1954, said he did not want to talk about the accident in Detroit Jan.
