A native of Rochester, she graduated from the University of Rtchester and received her master of science degree from Columbia University. She also did graduate work at Merrill-Palmer Institute, a home economics college in Detroit Before joining French, Miss Hutchinson taught in the City School District and at South Dakota State College, the University of Iowa and Michigan State University. Miss Hutchinson was past president of the Finger Lakes Home Economists and Business Group, past chairwoman and director of Rochester-Monroe County Nutrition Committee and past president of American Home Economics Association's Central Western District She was also a past member of the American Association of University Women.

She is survived by a brother, Elmer Hutchinson of Canada, and several nieces and nephews. Robyn Roberts spill ill nS YEAR A. Hutchinson, ran test kitchen Alice Hutchinson, who started the first test kitchen for the R.T. French died April 22 after a long illness at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Webster. She was 85.

Miss Hutchinson was hired in 1947 as chief home economist to test products. Before convincing the company to build a kitchen in 1952 at the former Rochester headquarters 1 Mustard St. executives frequently had to run back and forth from the kitchen at her Audubon Street home, said Bea Slizewski, communications coordinator for French's. Known to consumers as "Carol French," contriver of menus for French's, Miss Hutchinson was responsible for writing and approving all the package directions that appeared on the company's many food products. Her department also created the hundreds of recipes that appeared Heats in Winter.
