TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 2007 DemocratandChronicle.com DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE NEWS BEAT One dead, 3 hurt in city car accident A woman died and three others were slightly injured after their cars collided on Joseph Avenue on Monday. Alline Jackson, 70, of Rochester, was northbound on Joseph Avenue about 5:30 p.m. when her Dodge Neon glanced off the rear of another car stopped at a stoplight at Clifford Avenue, said Rochester Lt. Todd Baxter. Jackson's car then continued northbound, clipped an oncoming tractor-trailer and smashed into two unoccupied cars parked on the west side of Joseph Avenue.

Jackson, who may have suffered from a medical condition that contributed to the crash, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, Baxter said. Two of the three women in the car first struck were treated at the scene; Kathleen Lenzo, 57, of Rochester, was being evaluated for injuries. Sweet 'Harvest' for area filmmaker American Harvest, a documentary by Rochester filmmaker Angelo Mancuso, has born fruit. The feature earned honorable mention at the first Buffalo Niagara Film Festival, which concluded Saturday. His award effectively means second-place honors among nine documentary feature entries.

In American Harvest, Mancuso journeys from Florida to New York, with a side trip to the Mexican border, to examine the lives and issues of legal and illegal migrants and farmers working toward a better life. "The film expresses the (immigrant farming) issue," Mancuso says, "and getting it out there demonstrates that the audiences enjoy it and seem to learn something from it." The film has yet to find a U.S. distributor, but Mancuso will continue to show it at festivals. It's his first feature. The winning documentary at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival was Father and the Homeboys, a portrait of a priest who works with street-tough youngsters in East Los Angeles, with narration by Martin Sheen.
