The sources reported the rightist forces of about 1,200 men suffered 25 per cent casualties. If confirmed, this could be the worst setback suffered by the rightists in the entire Laotian civil war. The informants said the right-wing withdrawal was hampered by 3,000 refugee Meo tribesmen seeking to elude Communist capture. Some 300 to 400 of the Meo refugees were said to have been killed during the fighting, with some gunned down at close range. The Meos have fought the Pathet Lao with right-wing help.

Explosion Rips Atlas in Silo FREDERICK, Okla. UP An explosion of undetermined origin ripped through an Atlas missile site yesterday about five miles north of here in southwestern Oklahoma. The missile was unarmed and was undergoing modifications by the General Dynamics Corp. No one was reported injured. i Officials said a type Atlas missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, was in the tube at the time.

There was no fire. 3rd Exam Ordered in SLA Case NEW YORK A judge yesterday ordered a third medical examination to determine whether ousted State Liquor Authority Chairman Martin C. Epstein is physically able to stand trial on bribery and tax evasion charges. Supreme Court Justice Arthur Markewich issued the order after receiving conflicting medical reports the prosecution's doctor saying Epstein could stand trial and the defense's doctor saying he couldn't. The third examination will be conducted in Miami, where Epstein is staying.

Markewich said he will select the third doctor. The charges against Epstein stemmed from a lengthy grand jury probe of liquor authority operations.
