I have learned much as a player and a coach Dumitru said his playing career ended 10 years ago because of an injury. He since has coached several teams in Romania, including the Romania National Youth Soccer Team and National University Soccer Team. He says he also has had a number of books and articles published on soccer. There was general manager John Petrossi, telling everyone how he was misunderstood, how "there are no hard feelings" between fired coach Bill Hughes and himself, and how new coach Ted Dumitru is going to save the season. There was Dumitru, telling reporters how he wanted all the things Hughes had advocated as coach, agreeing that their philosophies are similar, then saying perhaps the only difference is that he is a better diplomat. That was the case last night as the Griffins routed the Toronto Tomahawks, 21-10, for their third straight victory after a four-game losing streak. Turning in what coach Morley Kells called "our best performance of the season," the Griffins took control midway through the first period before a crowd of 1,715 at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Rochester was leading, 4-2 when Wilfong scored four straight goals in a seven-minute spree. Three came on breakaways started by Marshall. Marshall had five assists. The victory kept the Griffins one point ahead of the Philadelphia Wings in first place in the National Lacrosse League. The Wings beat host Montreal, 21-13, last night.

Paralysis no handicap By JIM RICKEY Sportsturtter George Smith owns and operates his own auto repair shop in York and races dragsters on It all seems common enough, until you consider that George Smith is paralyzed from the waist down. It was nine years ago when the now 26-year-old Smith was critically injured in an automobile accident in the Town of. Perry, only a month before he was to graduate from York Central School. "I wasn't very familiar with the area," says Smith, "and I got lost. It was during the daytime and I was trying to find out where I was.

Reggie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals homered in the seventh inning and Don Kessinger of the Chicago Cubs tripled a run home in the eighth while five pitchers limited the American League to four hits. Garvey singled and scored on Cey's double in the second inning and doubled home the tying run in the fourth. Cey's infield grounder then brought home the go-ahead run.

Ken Brett of the Pittsburgh Pirates, a former American Leaguer, was the winning pitcher with two shutout innings of relief and Luis Tiant of the Boston Red Sox was the loser. He allowed three runs in two innings of work. The National League grabbed a 1-0 lead with two out in the second inning on Steve Garvey's single and Ron Cey's double. The American League edged in front 2-1 in the tr of the third with the help of the NL'f first error in 11 All-Star Games and Dick Allen's run-scoring single. Both teams went down in order in the opening inning, with each pitcher picking up a pair of strikeouts.

It gives them and the community the chance to see a professional sports team in action.".
