KOHL Curtiss Museum Founder BATH Otto P. Kohl, founder of the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of local history in Hammondsport and a Town of Urbana councilman, died late Thursday at Davenport Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 80. A native of Rochester, he joined Curtiss and his associates in Hammondsport in 1914 as a tool maker in Curtiss' aircraft production plant.

He later was promoted to production specialist and traveled to Curtiss plants during the World War I era to supervise intricate production efforts. After the joined Mercury, Aircraft Co. in Hammondsport. He was plant superintendent when he retired with 33 years' service in 1958. He then began efforts to establish a museum in honor of Curtiss, a Hammondsport native who conducted many of his historical aeronautical experiments in and around the village.

The museum was officially opened in the summer of 1962 and soon became known globally. Many aviation notables visited it and some donated artifacts. The Ox-5 Club of America, an aviation historical organization taking its name from an early Curtiss engine, established its aviation hall of fame in the museum. Mr. Kohl and the museum was host for the annual Ox-5 Club's Curtis Day Celebration in early summer over the past ten years.

Mr. Kohl did most of the physical renovation of the museum building, an unused school which Curtiss attended as a boy. It was not unusual for Mr. Kohl to work there 12 hours a day in its early years. It was only recently he gave up his post as museum curator, continuing as president.

He traveled to many states and Canada to collect donations to the museum. He refurbished some in the museum and others in the workshop garage next to his home atop Bully Hill. He also conducted visitors on tours of the three-story museum and discontinued it only several months ago. The Ox-5 Club of America in 1966 named him its Mr. Ox-5 Man of the Year.

Many aviation publications carried feature stories on his starting the museum and his own life. He was a member of the United Methodist church of Hammondsport and a 50-year member of the Pleasant Valley Grange. He also was a member of the Pulteney Internationl Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eleanor Brush Kohl; a son, Carl of Hammondsport, a daughter, Mrs.

Susie Andrews of Auburn; three brothers, Arthur, Ralph and Oscar of Rochester, and four grandchildren. RADIATOR AND GAS TANK REPAIRING All Work Guaranteed and Priced! PICK- UP and DELIVERY!
