Jackie 0. has created this year's gowns of silk, satin and organza, in rich jeweled tones, trimmed with intricate beading of Austrian crystals and pearls. The designer said, "The gowns' silhouettes, with their exaggerated bodices and full skirts, are reminiscent of Parisian royalty and romance." The Krewe of Knights of Momus originally founded in 1871, and actively participated in.Gal- veston Mardi Gras festivities until 1941, when World War II interrupted the celebrations. A new Krewe of Knights 'of Momus was formed in 1985, when Mardi Gras was revived to celebrate the grand opening of the restored Tremont House Hotel. Today, the Knights of Momus is a support organization whose chief purpose is the perpetuation of Galveston Mardi Gras and all related activities.

Although the workings of the club are shrouded in mystery, it is no secret that its 350 members were largely responsible for the renaissance of Mardi Gras in 1985 and for its ever-growing popularity in subsequent years. The krewe has earned its name (Momus means the god of merriment,) not only through its own activities but also by encouraging the formation of other krewes and helping them takepart in the celebrations.
