MINEOLA Man charged in charity scam A Long Island man has been arrested and charged with collecting thousands of dollars for an anti-violence organization and then using most of the money for personal expenses. Michael Cashman, 47, of Westbury, was charged with scheming to defraud. He was to be arraigned yesterday. According to Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon, Cashman deposited $16,875 in the bank account of a charity that he founded but spent all but $1,000 of the money on personal expenses, including travel for himself and his girlfriend in Illinois, a car for her and a ring.

A $525,830 federal lien including interest and penalties was filed against the league in February 2000. Spitzer said yesterday that he won't pursue a lawsuit to recover funds.
