Matthew S. Bermon, 22, of Gorham was charged with third-degree rape, a felony, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a female minor on Dec, 26 at a residence in Gorham, said Lt. Bill Gallagher of the Ontario County Sheriff's Department. Deputies did not disclose additional information about the incident. Bermon was taken into custody at 11:10 p.m., was arraigned in Gorham Town Court and remanded to Ontario County Jail, deputies said.

He was released Thursday on $1,000 bail, Gallagher said. Bermon is scheduled to return to Gorham Town Court at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23, Gallagher said. Music group notes receipt of grant The Commission Project, a national music education organization based in Rochester, has received a $58,000 grant from the New York State Music Fund to support interactive music residences at schools in the Rochester area.

The grant will fund the "Blues in Schools" program at School 2 on Reynolds Street and at School 30 on Otis Street, and also at Norman Howard School. The programs teach fourth-graders blues and Jazz and will culminate in a "Blues Night" in which students from each school perform original compositions alongside Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Trumpeter Herb Smith. Blaze guts house in Ontario County A fire Wednesday gutted a home in the town of Hopewell, Ontario County. The structure fire was reported about 4:30 p.m. at 1960 Petit Road, said Lt.

Bill Gallagher of the Ontario County Sheriff's Department. Once the fire was extinguished, only the charred frame of the house remained. Kim Hunt, 56, her daughter, Wendy Buisch, 26, and Wendy's two children lived in the house, which was owned by Catherine Griffin of Shortsville, deputies said. No one was home when the fire broke out, but the family returned as firefighters were battling the blaze, Gallagher said. RIT gets $400,000 for Kosovo project HENRIETTA Rochester Institute of Technology has received a $400,000 grant from the United States Agency for International Development's Higher Education Collaborative Partnership Program to establish the Center for Energy and Natural Resource Development at Kosovo's American University.

The center will assist the province in southern Serbia in such realms as energy self-sufficiency, policy studies and natural resource economics. Keegan M.D., Appleton, Wl, age 57, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. He was born June 23, 1949 in N.Y., son of the late Dr. John F. and Hetty (Halpin) Keegan. John graduated from Bishop Kearney High School in 1967.

In 1971 John graduated from the University of Notre Dame, from Northwestern University Medical School in 1975 and served his residency in Minneapolis, becoming board certified in Internal Medicine. She is survived by her husband, Leon J.

Creek; sister, Janet R. Parker of Georaetown. KY; daughters, Anne Hickerson Jay of Louisvme, ky, and Alice Hickerson Schaaf of Lexington, KY; sons-in-law, Christopher Jay and Gregory Schaaf; and grandsons, Thomas, John, and William Jay. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Susanna lived for twenty years in Brockport and Rochester, before moving back to Lexington, KY. While living in Brockport, she was an active member at First Baptist Church and worked part-time at the Morgan-Manning House.

She later worked for the Rochester Area Community Foundation, and became executive director of the Blue Grass Community Foundation upon her move to Lexington. Susanna enjoyed traveling, gardening, architecture, and spending time with family. Scobell, James Burt Of Pittsford, NY, a big-hearted and beloved man of faith, family and philanthropy, died on Jan.

7, 2007 in Florida. Mr. Scobell was bom on Oct. 13, 1918, in Rochester, the son of the late George West and Julia Burt Scobell, and the brother of the late Helen Scobell Rose. He had been president of Scobell Chemical Co.

in Rochester, NY, before selling the business in 1980. His father, George had founded the company. He was a graduate of West High School in Rochester and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, cum laude, from Syracuse University in 1943. While at the university, he was a member of Psi Upsilon fraternity. Mr.

Scobell served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant stationed in Guam. He wed Betty Stillman in 1948, and raised their two daughters, Deborah Scobell Philpott and Diane Scobell Obenauf, in Pittsford. Betty Scobell died in 1982. Mr.

Scobell and Elaine Reynolds of Pittsford were married in 1992. Mr. Scobell's generosity to many organizations and charities was a reflection of his devotion to his hometown and to community service. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the Valley of Rochester, a Master of Seneca Lodge; and a Potentate of Damascus Shrine Center. He served these and other groups with gregt commitment.

He also was a longtime member of Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford and the Rochester Rotary. In addition to his daughters, Deborah (Ron Maslyn) Philpott, Diane (Gregg Obenauf and his wife, Elaine, Mr. Scobell is survived by his grandson, Tyler James Obenauf; niece, Wendy Rose; nephew, Don Rose and grand-nephew, George Rose; five stepdaughters, Patricia (Ron) Bern, Pamela (William Holliday) Reynolds, Cynthia (Richard) Hart, Melinda (Terry) Martin and Christine (Donald) Schriber; eight stepgrandchildren, Carleton (Amy) Bern, Megan (Werner Loots) Bern, Derrick Hart, Devlin Hart; Kathleen Gerlach, Holly Gerlach, Jameson Schriber and Jacqueline Schriber. "Bill" GREECE: Thursday, January 11, 2007, at age 92. He was born June 28, 1914, to William and Ella (Kettwig) Van Putte. He married Grace Justice on August 1, 1936. In the early years of their marriage, they 0 grew vegetables on their North Avenue farm for the public market. In the mid 1940's, Bill worked at L.P.

Gunson Seed Co. In 1948 Bill and Grace started the Van Putte Seed Co. to serve area farmers. Within a short time, Bill added greenhouses and started growing plants for homeowners, thus establishing Greece's first Garden Store. In 1976, Bill and Grace retired, but he continued in the role of advisor and to work in the greenhouses until 2004.

Bill is a past member of the New York Nurseryman's Association and a charter member of the Greece Rotary Club. Bill loved all forms of sports. In his early years he played basketball and baseball. He became an avid bowler, golfer and shuffleboard player. During the winter, Bill and Grace resided in Lakeland, Florida, where Bill was the president of their shuffleboard club.

He thoroughly enjoyed teaching people how to play this game. Haak, RoseMary O'Neill LIVONIA, NY: Died suddenly on January 9, 2007. Escorted to her Heavenly Father by her guardian angel in the presence of her devoted husband of 68 years, Chester A. Haak and her family. The daughter of Nicholas and Helen O'Neill, RoseMary was born in Rochester, NY. Her lifelong spiritual and religious beliefs channeled her energy and delivery of services to her family and community.

A daily communicant, she was coordinator of the Religious Education Program at St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a Eucharistic Minister. She was in merchandising at B. Forman and a reporter for the Rochester Times-Union and Democrat Chronicle. RoseMary was also involved in numerous volunteer organizations and served on the Livingston Co.

Board of Mental Health. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her love of family encompassed her life and she especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy; sons, Frederick C. and Thomas M. She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Baumgartner of Mayaguay, Puerto Rico; Mary Ann (William) DiBerardino, Wellsville, NY; Susan Goossens (John) Barnacastle, Birmingham, AL; son, John (Robbyn) Haak, Livonia Center, NY; daughter-in-law, Nancy Haak, Pittsburgh, PA; brother, John (Norma) O'Neill, Pittsford, NY; sisters, Helen Kelly, Rochester, NY; Louise Skelly, Syracuse, NY; grandchildren, Holly Sarver, Robin Azer; Mark, James, Timothy and Andrew Haak; Thomas Baumgartner; Thomas, David, Timothy John DiBarardino, Kristin Goossens Andersson, Amy Goossens, John Jennifer Haak, 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
