In property damage and deaths from tornadoes, it suffered more than Kansas in one 38-year period. Deaths were listed at 213 and property damage at $29.7 million. Kansas for the same period had 165 deaths and damage of $24.5 million. One reason for this is that the average Kansan is more conscious of tornadoes than a Minnesotan. They have cyclone cellars and regular warning systems which cut both deaths and property losses.

A tornado is more likely to arrive unexpectedly in Minnesota. For example in the Tracy, tornado Thursday, a farmer's warning was the only thing that kept the toll from going higher.
