The Rochester Board of Education, said Tuttle, deserved the warmest thanks for making East High available to the theater in a season when East Rochester High was occupied by a summer school session.

But Tuttle is an East Rochester man, from the cradle. Home is home, and the audience showed that it shares his feelings. The next season at the old stand appears to be "possible," Tuttle said. If his finances are equal to the prospect, he added wryly. In his homey curtain speech, he told his loyal patrons that "the only word is rough" to describe a season of running summer theater.

Henrietta Rd. lui Walt Disney Cartoon 1 By SAMMY DAMS JR. Written for United Prest International NEW YORK (LTD Whenever I am asked why I push myself eight performances a week at the Majestic Theater, television appearances, benefits and recordings all I can say is it's both business and pleasure.

I don't consider "Golden Boy" work. Not now, anyway. When we were getting the musical ready for Broadway last year, it was work, bard work. But now that we have settled down to a lengthy run, it's more fun than work. For the fall, I have two ABC television specials lined up.

One, scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, is an added pleasure for me and looks like a gas. I'll have no guest stars except kids! It will be a special about children that I know every member of the family will enjoy. My other is entitled "The Swingers," and will have Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Count Basle. Now, you know that the title of the show can never be termed as a misnomer. HOWEVER, my benefit appearances are what really raise eyebrows.

"How does he do it?" "Where does he get the energy?" Perhaps I can best explain it this way. Years ago, Absurd's Continued from Pago IE literalness and common sense. It bespeaks a culture and taste that have been nourished by rock 'n' roll singers, comic strips, the Three Stooges on television, James Bond movies and elephant Jokes. All of us remarked the similarity between the anarchy of the Beatles in their last film and that of the famous Marx Brothers. There is a difference between the two groups, how-ever, and it is particularly evident in the performance of "Help!" Each of the comical Marxes was a satiric caricature.

Groucho was the perpetual con man, the sharper full of burlesque confidence. Chico was the lowbrow organ grinder who concealed a razor-sharp wit and a self-serving shrewdness behind that innocent facade. And Harpo was the madcap artist whose muteness was more eloquent of a mischievous and generous hearted spirit than any words could have conveyed. of SEVILLE" Rochester, N.Y. its glittering best!" as8' Sale LLLL77 I SHI BARBER Yesterday there were three summer theaters in the Rochester area. Today there are two. Tomorrow the Bristol Valley Playhouse will be left blooming alone. The last of Town and Country Playhouse, relocated this season from East Rochester to East High School, bows out tonight with the final performance when my father and uncle and I were hoofing it and playing all the dates we could to keep from starving, I said to myself that if ever I made it in show business, I would offer my thanks in the most concrete way I knew how.

So, I have done benefits for almost every charity in America and some outside the states and have never regretted any of them. I feel that's what life's all about doing the things one feels he has to do. Another thing that really surprises me is when people ask how or why I take the time to sign anywhere from 50 to 200 autographs after each performance of "Golden Boy." It's simple. I've worked in this business for 37 years, scratching and clawing my way to where I can enjoy this luxury. When someone asks me for an autograph, I am flattered, and I'm not about to turn them down.

It's my way of saying, "Hey, you made me. You gave me the chance. And I want to pay you back." I CAN'T let grass grow under my feet. I've got to keep developing in every medium, night clubs, television, theater, records, everything. I am going to make a film for Joe Levine entitled "Adam" this fall Now good clean healthy charm, have not yet discovered and developed distinctive comic characters.

Ringo is the most creative. He is the sad sack, the butt of the jokes, the one who inclines to be literal. The others John, Paul and George (last names supplied by any Beatle-ma-niac) are just happy, glib young men who toss off lines and get a kick out of living and doing zany things. Their of musical spontaneity and inexhaustible energy is fine for awhile, but it can become monotonous and tiring to one who Is not an Idolatrous fan and hasn't all day or even an hour and a half to sit there and watch them doing pretty much the same things over and over. And that is what you are required to do by "Help!" which is showing at theaters all over the Metropolitan area, the United States and the civilized world.

And once a month I flake out for a full day. I guess it really upsets my doctors. I remember when I was in Philadelphia last year, on the road with "Golden Boy" before we opened on Broadway, I had trouble with my throat. One doctor told me to register myself In the nearest hospital for a three-month rest. Another told me to stop everything for six months.

Of course, I didn't do any of that. And it cleared up. The doctor examined me and shook his head. He said, "You're a nut; I don't believe it." That made me feel good. However, I don't want anyone to think that' Sammy Davis is a superman.

I'm human and I get just as tired as the next guy, but it's my life and I've got to play it the way I see it. But I know one thing, and you can bet on it.
