Jim Owens, program administrator at the Presbyterian Home, leads the way through the newer part of the 19th Ward facility, to the dark-red brick section built in 1927, originally as a women's home. Without breaking his step, Owens offers a chipper greeting to an elderly woman slumped in a chair by a window, in the afternoon sun. She doesn't stir.
