High School Baseball Season to Open May 20 Eight Conference Affairs Listed On 21-Game Schedule Will Open Here Against Rock Valley Sioux Center's high school baseball team, coached by Dave Mulder, will open a Zl-game schedule here a week from today Thursday, May 20 when they'll entertain Rock Valley at 4 p.m. The local team was scheduled to hold its first organized workout yesterday with only part of the boys expected to report for the practice because of the Tulip Festival Relays at Orange City which involved several of the local baseball boys. Among the boys expected to report for practice are 10 lettermen Carl Bleeker, Gene Den Herder, R. G. Boeyink, Les Brommer Jerry Den Herder, Terry Visser, John Ver Steeg, Merlin Berkenpas Vern Den Herder and Frank Bruinsma.

The local team has a schedule of 21 games, plus tournaments. The first five games will be at 4 p.m. and all the rest will be evening games beginning at 8 p.m. In six instances, 6 p.m. junior varsity contests will precede the 8 p.m.

July 26 at July 30 at Rock Auguil 2 Canton, 'Junior Varsity game at 6 p.m. Empire Conference game, Walleye, Sauger and Northern Piko Seasons Now Open In Natural Lakes Iowa fishermen are reminded that the walleye, sauger and northern pike seasons opened Saturday, May 8, in the natural lakes of the state. The combined daily catch limit of walleye and sauger in most of the natural lakes is five with a possession limit of ten.

The daily limit of northern pike is three with a possession limit of six. However, in Little Spirit Lake, Dickinson County; Iowa and Tuttle (Okamanpedan) Lakes, Emmet County; Burt (Swag) Lake, Kossuth County; and Iowa Lake, Osceola County, the following exceptions apply: The walleye daily catch limit is six, possession limit six; northern pike daily catch limit three, possession limit three. There is no minimum weight or ength requirement on any of the hree species. The season on these three game fish species will remain open until February 15, 1966. There is a continuous open season on walleye, sauger and northern pike in all streams, Missouri and Mississippi River oxbow lakes and artificial lakes and in the boundry waters of the state which include the Missouri, Mississippi and Big Sioux Rivers and the inland waters of Lee County.

In the boundry waters the combined daily catch limit of walleye and sauger is 10 with a possession limit of 20. The daily catch limit of northern pike is five; possession limit is 10. The daily catch limit and possession limit of walleye, sauger and northern pike in streams, oxbow lakes and artificial lakes are the same as those which apply to the natural lakes. Second place went to Paullina with a total of 345. Sioux Center finished fifth in a field of nine schools. Medalist honors went to John McCarty of LeMars Gehlen with scores of Runner up medalist was Brian Hulquist of West Sioux: Gehlen and Paullina, plus the medalist and runnerup will advance to district competition at Sibley Monday, May 17. The first three of the above de- qualified and Coach Aden Baerenwald was still waiting for word on the broad jump and mile relays Tuesday afternoon. Sutherland won the class meet with 60 points. Emmetsburg was second with 47 and Sioux Center finished third with 30. Not all the schools showed up for the completition of the meet Monday night. Most of the local boys took part in their final track meet of the season yesterday (Wednesday) when they participated in the Tulip Festival Relays at Orange City. ffi WANT ADS Plan Clean Up At Softball Fie Next Thursday The annual clean up night at the local Softball diamond will be held next week Thursday evening, May 20.

As an incentive to have all teams represented at the clean up night, it was approved at the annual meeting in April to charge $6.00 against any team not represented by at least two players at the clean up night. The four-team older men's league will begin play Thursday, May 27, and the four-team younger league will begin action Tuesday, June 1. Six-School Golf Meet to Be Held Here May 17 Sioux Center will play host Monday, May 17, to a six-school golf meet at the Sandy Hollow golf course. The meet will get underway at 4 p.m. The schools are Sioux Center, Sheldon, LeMars Gehlen, Maurice- Orange City, West Sioux, and Boyden-Hull.

Each school will be represented by five boys with the scores of the top four boys making up the total for their school. LeMars Gehlen will not have four of their top boys at the meet since they'll be taking part in a district golf meet at Sibley that day. The meet will complete the golf season for the local school. Sioux Center was to have hosted triangulars here next week Wednesday and Friday but they were cancelled in favor of the big six- team meet. Dordt Drops Extra Inning Contest to Westmar Thursday Will Host Estherville Today at 3 p.m.

Westmar college scored an unearned run in the eighth inning triples by Stewart and Bruce Green and an out-field error. Pitcher Daryl Vaas had two of Northwestern's five hits a sin gle and double. The visitors collected 10 hits off Butch King and reliefer Jerry Burgers in the second contest. Three singles and a fielders choice scored two runs in the seventh to put It on ice for the invaders. Warriors Lose Dual Golf Meets to LeMars, West Sioux The LeMars Central high school golf squad defeated Sioux Center 175 to 191 in a dual meet at Le- Mars last week Wednesday afternoon. The hosts also took the junior varsity meet, 195 to 224. LeMars' Dick Crayne. took medalist honors with a 42.

Par is 35. Sioux Center's varsity contestants and their scores: Wayne Evenhuis, 46; R. G. Boeyink, 48; Carl Bleeker, 48; Les Brommer, 49; Mark Vermeer, 50. Only the top four count in the scoring.

Mark Kettleson, Rick Zietlow and Gerry Mennen had 48's for LeMars' junior varsity. Rick Brommer, Jud Te Paske, Al Scholten, Vern Den Herder and Don Huisman shot 52, 53, 59, 60 and 62, respectively, for Sioux Center's jayvecs. Pliy at Sioux West Sioux and Sioux Center shot their lowest scores of the season in a dual meet at Hawarden Thursday afternoon with West Sioux winning, 171 to 182. Medalist honors went to Dan Dagle of West Sioux with a two over par 37. Carl Bleeker, Wayne Evenhuis, Les Brommer and Veryl Huisman represented Sioux Center's varsity with scores of 41, 45, 47, 49 and 51.

West Sioux took the junior varsity match by 175 to 200 with Steve Wagers shooting a hot 38 for the winners. Both teams scored runs early in the game and were then blanked until the extra inning. A walk to Scholten and a wind- carried home run by Miller gave the hosts a 2-0 lead in the first inning but Dordt bounced right back to tie it in the second on a single by Terry Jonker, double by Willie De Boer and a single by Rod De Boer. Westmar loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh but a strike out and double play got starting pitcher Bob Miedema out of a jam and sent the game into an extra inning. Don Veldman came on to pitch the eighth inning for Dordt and took the loss even though the run was unearned. The winning run scored on a single, sacrifice, error and sacri fice fly.

Miedema struck out nine batters and walked four. In going the distance for Westmar, Bennett fanned eight batters and walked three. Dordt played Northwestern at Orange City in a double header Tuesday afternoon (story on page 6). They will entertain Estherville at Orange City today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. and will complete their sea son at Estherville Tuesday, May 18, also at 3 p.m. Willie De Boer is scheduled to start on the mound today for Dordt and Miedema is expected to get the nod Tuesday. Red Raiders Drop Game to Wayne; Pair to Midland Wayne State College walloped Northwestern, 16 to 2, at Wayne, last week Wednesday and Midland college handed the Red Raiders a pair of losses at Orange City Monday, 7 to 3 and 5 to 2. The Red Raiders took a 4-7 overall record into their final twin bill of the season against Dordt Tuesday afternoon (story on page 6).

Lou to Weyne, 14-2 Northwestern took a 2-0 lead after innings last week Wednesday and were "in" the game until the seventh when the winners scored eight runs. Northwestern used three pitchers in that inning. Ron Sadler hit a two-run homer for Wayne in the sixth inning and teammate Bob Gaeta hit two triples.
