Hotbam, an Ironde-quoit High School junior and an avid sports enthusiast, died Saturday (May 9, 1970) of cancer. He was 17. Robin was a defenseman on the school's hockey team and ran several events on the track team.

He also played center on the junior high school basketball team. During a routine physical prior to the hockey season last December, doctors discovered the cancer, said his father, Richard Hotham, 107 Lake Front Street, Irondequoit. Mr. Hotham said doctors told him his son's disease was rare. The cancer, called rhabdomyoma sarcoma, attacks the lymph glands of the body.

Robin continued his education until a month ago, when he had to be put in Strong Memorial Hospital. The school had sent tutors to his home or to the hospital during the winter. "He was a good student with passing grades," Hotham said. "There wasn't a sport in the world he didn't like or didn't want to play," he said. Surviving Robin are his parents, a brother and three sisters.

The family has asked that any contributions in his memory be made to the Medical Cancer Research Fund, in care of the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
