Big O's Team Retains Lead In Cage Poll By The Associated Press Oscar Robertson keeps on breaking basketball records and GLiMaoavern. Lowe Beiiewech. 62) Ene oj To i 23' 91 A Lesson in By JOE WILMAX JJERE'S a tip to build up your confidence when you're shooting at a single pin spare. Think of your target as being two feet wide. It's pretty hard to miss a target that big, isn't it? here's what I mean: A bowling ball 13 nbout 9 inches in diameter.

A bowling pin is about 5 inches wide at its middle. Because you can pick up a single pin spare by rolling on either side of the pin, you actually have a 23- inch target, figuring 9 inches! on cither side of a 3-inch pin. The illustration shows what I mean. I know the mathematicians will say the ball can actually roll over only a 11-inch area to knock down the pin, hut I think it helps a bowler's confidence if he figures in the to-foot target area. I h' team, Cincinnati, keeps on vlnnins games.

So the nation's sports writers and broadcasters keen on voting for the Bearcats the No. 1 team even though Bradley and California also have imorcssive records. These three teams, each with 171 records, again wound up in the 1-2-3 positions today in the weekly Associated Press poll, based on results through Saturday. Cincinnati, with 38 first place votes out of 191 ballots, gathered 1,793 points on the usual basis of 10 for each first place vote, 9 for second, etc. Bradley, Cincinnati's leading Missouri Valley Conference rival, drew 20 first place votes and 1.606 points.

California's 1959 NCAA champions polled 33 first3 and 1,603 points. Ohio State's Big 10 pacesetters and West Virginia, leader in the Southern Conference, easily held the fourth and fifth spots. Georgia Tech clung to sixth despite a loss to Auburn in one of last week's two games. 1. Cincinnati (li) 1 Bradley (20) 17-ij This doesn't apply to corner spares such as the 7 pin or the 10 pin because you can't pick those pins up by rolling on the outside of them.

Commence is important in bowling. Not overconfidence just a quiet belief that you can do what has to be done. And I think the two-foot target on single pins helps build that kind of confidence.
