Dean has been able to last out only one of five games. Relief hurlers saved his hide on four occasions. But he'll get the starting call for a three-inning stretch, at least.

Manager Rogers Hornsby, another great routed from the majors a few seasons back, put Dean back in the glamor role by naming him as his starting pitcher. (Scalzo Stops Ivy in 15th Cut Lip Puts End To Feather Title Battle in Hartford HARTFORD, July (U.P.) Bobby Ivy, a newsboy who calls himself "Poison," proved to be more dangerous than flower-pot Ivy, and today Petey Scalzo owned as much of the featherweight title as he ever did. Scalzo was awarded a technical knockout in the 15th round of their title fight last night.

The local lad was unable to answer the bell because of a severely lacerated lip. Referee Billy Taylor and both judges called it a 15th round knockout. Scalzo, the National Boxing Association's 126-pound champion, was far ahead on points. The United Press score sneet had Scalzo the winner in 11 rounds with one even. Ivy took the second and 12th.

The officials thought the Hartford slugger also had the edge in the 11th. EASTERN LEAGUE Hartford 3, Albany 1. Binghamton 9-2; Springfield 3-3. 90 proof Peoria, Hiram Walker Sone Inc. is 4 roun Peoria, Illinois (Continued) Decision of the Oakland tion Department to refuse reservation of two courts at any playgrounds other than Bushrod, Viejo and San Antonio has almost paralyzed play between the Eastbay's more than a score of tennis clubs. It is practically an impossibility to run off a team match on a single court and inasmuch as these interclub team matches, are the very heart, soul lifeline of these clubs, it is that the recreahanded tion department will modify the ruling. As things stand now, adjacent municipalities are forced to supply virtually all courts for Eastbay competition. Of the three Oakland sites left available only San Antonio is considered fit for play.

Playoff Canceled It appears exceedingly doubtful if the much discussed play between the Bay Counties Tennis League champion and the San Francisco Tennis Association titlist will ever be held. Originally scheduled for last Sunday, and postponed on account of the Fourth of July holiday, the match had been definitely arranged for this week-end. Less than an hour after a phone call was received Tuesday from the New Mission club, transbay champs, announcing their inability to keep the date, a letter was received from Willard Smith, manager of Lakepark's Bay Counties winners, requesting that the event be put off indefinitely. Oakland Championships Entries are now being received for the Brookdale men's open for the Oakland city championship. The meet will start on July 28th with play confined to Sundays on the Brookdale courts.
