OCTOBER 12, 1945 TOWN LEADERS GET ADVICE ON VICTORY LOAN Leaders of the 20 towns of Monroe County -were given their first 'briefing" for the coming Victory Lroan drive at an organization meeting at the Chamber of Com-tnerce yesterday noon. They will have a quota of a million dollars in sales, though the breakdown by towns has not yet been made, James W. Gray, vice-chairman of District 2, told the group, mostly town chairmen and their assistants. Acting on a suggestion by Mrs. John R. Booth, deputy manager of the War Finance Office, several town chairmen indicated they would set up their drives on the basis of purchases of symbolical units of hospital beds for the care of wounded veterans in Army and Kavy institutions. Roy C. Draper of Brighton, new Monroe County chairman, presided. Other speakers were Raymonu N., Ball, District 2 general chairman, Mrs. Hawlcy Ward, district vice-chairman, and Mrs. Charles Wad-hams, county vicechairman. The meeting concluded with a preview showing of some of the films available for presentation at bond sale meetings and rallies. Quotas previously announced for the campaign, set for Oct. 29 to Dec. 8, are: District, overall Individual $19,350,000; E Bonds $11,-450,000; Monroe overall individual, $15,200,000; E Bonds $9,300,000. Army Enlists 5 At Station Here Five Army enlistments were chalked up yesterday by recruiters In the Federal Building, according to Maj. Clarence C. Dalton, commanding officer of the Rochester Iiecruiting District. Sworn into the Regular Army was Francis Herman, 53 Evangeline St, who signed up for service with the Military Police in the European Theater. Enlisted in the Enlisted Reserve Corps unassigned were Ira E. Haskins, 4 Allen St.; Jack Harper, 1441 Emrson St., and Richard L. L'Amereaux, 37 Mason Ft. Sworn into the permanent En listed Reserve Corps was Staff Sgt. Alfred J. Sausgiver, 316 Clinton Ave. S., who served six years with the infantry overseas. Uncle Dan Party Slated Tomorrow A pie-Halloween party is expected to attract 2,000 youngsters to the Palace Theater tomorrow et 9:30 a. m. to mark the 10th anniversary of Uncle Dan's Birthday Club. , Uncle Dan, through his newspaper column for youngsters, has long been identified with The Democrat and Chronicle. The column, suspended during the war years, now runs three times weekly. In addition to a feature picture, "The Spanish Main" there will be cartoon strips and games.
