The Wagner bill passed today provides for an appropriation of $4,000,000 for creation of a bureau of employment headed by a director who would be authorized to cooperate with state and local em-ployment agencies in expanding their work. The two Wagner bills passed previously by the Senate provide for a more thorough system of gathering labor statistics and for a Joint commission to expedite federal construction work. Although the final vote was close, debate on the unemployment bureau bill was listless and two quorum calls were necessary before sufficient senators could be found to act on the measure. Advocating passage of the bill, Senator. Wagner asserted that it would substantially relieve the unemployment situation which he described as demanding Immediate action by the federal government.
