Morris Wilson, Pastor Sue Ingcrsoll, a red haired brown-eyed beauty operator and New Mexico's Miss, Universe entry, said "I am going ahead with the contest and I am keeping my religion, too." The office of Archbishop Edwin V. Byrne said she and her family will be deprived of the sacraments of Communion and confession "for a period of time to be determined by the archbishop himself" if she parades publicly in a bathing suit.

Miss Universe contestants are required to parade in bathing suits. And contest officials in Long Beach, while deploring the archbishop's ban, said they wouldn't change the rules. "I just won't give up my re ligion," she said. "I sincerely hope not. 'It means so much to me." She appeared mainly worried about her mother, who also would fall under the loss of Sacraments.

"I've talked with my mother and she has nothing to do with it whatsoever. She doesn't approve of me disobeying the wishes of the archbishop. She's a good Catholic." She said her father was not a Catholic. The chancery office of the archbishop, in a statement issued in response to questions, said the archbishop's decree, issued several years ago, still stands. "The Catholic Church will not oppose bathing suit review contests if the review is held in private, allowing the families of the contestants and the judges to be present," the chancery office said.

"The Catholic Church will, however, oppose a public review of the contestants wearing bathing suits. The Catholic Church will oppose it if any pictures of contestants wearing bathing suits are published in the daily papers." Father M. J. During the 12-month period the fellowship also sponsored through the cooperation of local churches the National Assn. of Evangelicals newspaper advertising, a scries of 10 ads which ran on local church pages. SteGh, L. Cauble preaching integration. "Your petitioners do not desire to be Integrated with members of the white race or live among them," said the suit, filed in superior (state) court on behalf of the Negroes. Plans two years in the making call for clearing what has been officially, designated a "slum area" and replacing it with a "model" white industrial and business section. The Negroes now living or doing business in the area are to be relocated.

The Negroes charged the federal government is footing most of the renewal cost in order to "develop integrated residential neighborhoods." Mayor Willard A. Beckum denied any such goals could be achieved under the city's present residential zoning policies and expressed doubt that the integration prospect was the "real interest" behind the suit.
