Names Sammy Davis Dines the News In Royal Style MONTE CARLO (UPD American entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. had lunch with Prince Rainier and Princess Grace yesterday and then flew to Rome to talk business with Sophia Loren's husband, film-producer Carlo Ponti. Davis, who Friday night was the star attraction in Princess Grace's annual Red Cross gala, said he had a "wonderful, wonderful" afternoon with the royal couple. Davis's friends, singers Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, had been expected to join him on the French Riviera summer playground but never showed up. Other members of the much-ballyhooed Hollywood "clan" did appear, including actor Peter Lawford and his wife Pat, a sister of President Kennedy.

June Allyson Goes Under Knife MONTEREY, Calif. (P) Actress June Allyson, 38, had a kidney stone removed Saturday night, her doctor disclosed yesterday. Dr. William Layton said there is still some infection. Layton said the actress is on antibiotics and will remain indefinitely in Monterey Hospital.

U.S. Chess Champion Skips 12th Match LOS ANGELES (P) -Sixteen-year-old Bobby Fischer, defending U.S. chess champion, failed to show up for the 12th game in his match with challenger Samuel Reshevsky yesterday. The referee called it a forfeit victory for Reshevsky and set off a storm that could rock chess circles for weeks. Referee Irving Rivise gave this account: Child, 4, Killed In Boat Fire NEW YORK (P) An explosion and fire on a cabin cruiser at a Brooklyn dock yesterday killed a child and injured 11 persons.

Two of the 14 aboard the 45-foot Jolly Roger, on deck when the explosion occurred, jumped to the escaped injury. They were Robert and Maxine Fischler, the parents of 4-year-old Debbie Fischler, who died on the flaming boat. Critically injured were George Rabinow, 46, and Linda Garelick, 11, both of Brooklyn. Rabinow, an officer of the Arrow Folding Box was the host to the boating party of relatives and friends. The boat is owned by his firm.

The cause of the explosion was not known. Buried in Sand, Rome Boy Dies CAMDEN (P) Robert Hemmes, 13, of Rome was killed yesterday when he was buried under sand while he and another 13-year-old boy were digging in a cave. The boys discovered the cave halfway up a 20-fod bank of Fish Creek in Fore: Park in this Oneida County community. Robert's companion, Robert Aikens of Taberg, said "We were just digging in the cave, and all of a sudden it happened to fall in." Young Aikens unsuccessfully attempted to dig his friend out and then summoned his father, Leo Aikens, who uncovered young Hemmes' head. Firemen from Camden dug the boy out but were unable to revive him.

Young Hemmes had been visiting the Aikens family. ST. LAWRENCE DROWNING OGDENSBURG (P -Donald A. Dimon, 16, of Theresa, drowned yesterday while swimming in the St. Lawrence River at Jacques Cartier State Park.

Merton Waldron of Perry, Wyoming County coroner, said Herrmann suffered a broken neck, crushed chest and multiple fractures. Police said Herrmann and his wife, Anne, had been working yesterday on farm property they had recently purchased. Herrmann was hauling away debris from the old farm house to a nearby dumping ground when the accident happened. Lester Foster, engineer of the northbound freight, headed toward Rochester, told investigators that Herrmann seemed to "freeze" as the train came toward him.
