I 1 I Commenting on the police suitistics which show that the number of accidents in Rochester has continued to decrease this month, as compared with July last year, as did the number in June, Police Chief Joseph M. Quigley yesterday said: "There can be no question buc that th-s remarkable reduction in the number of accidents is being accomplished through the intensive educational work which is being carried on in Rochester.

It is the continual hammering on this subject which brings results and saves lives. The police are pointing out hazards wherever they find them, sneakers are giving instructions and the newspapers are keeping this before the people, "The safety work should be carried on here and I believe that a safety organization should be a part of the city government. I advocated that in my annual report, and thee figures show that I was right, for we should have some one whose duty it would be to continually point out danger to the people. "It would cost something to do that, but human lives should not be measured in dollars and cents. No subject should be clearer to each one of us than the one of safety, for that includes all of us." The report shows that while there were 103 accidents of all classes in which persons were injured in the first twenty-one days of July, 1917, there were only 61 during the first twenty-one days of July of this year, a reduction of 33 pe.r cent.

There were forty-five automobile accidents in which persons were injured in this period of last year and twenty-eighc in the similar period for this year. Increased caution is revealed on the part of both pedestrians and vehicles of all classes, the figures show, compared to Rochester to Syracuse Leave Rochester via East avenue, turn right into Clover road follow macadam through Meudon Center S. Vegetables and fruits are needed by the school, and anyone having a surplus of these commodities from their war gardens could make a most pleasing and acceptable present to the school by sending some of that surplus to it.

Hanna, the Superintendent of the school, on the telephone, Stone 3730, and she will tell thenijust what the school most needs in that line of eatables.

She will tell them, too, that the school could use a few cribs, as the war has increased the attendance of very little babies to such an extent that some of the children have to sleep in baV-kets which have been provided temporarily. Anyone who has a surplus crib up in the attic somewhere might bring it down during one of the extra hours of daylight and see that i' is delivered to the school. If, for some sweet sentimental reason they don't want to part with the crib permanently, they may loan it to the school and it vshII be returned upon demand.
