Philadelphia 17 Denver 24. Cleveland 14 Monday's Game Miami at Butlalo. 9p.m. Davis, Bailey pace Astros HOUSTON (AP) Rookie Glenn Davis drove in the winning run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly, and Mark Bailey hit two home runs as the Houston Astros eked out a 10-9 victory over the San Diego Padres Sunday night. Dave Smith, 4-3, was the winner in relief.

Rich Gossage, 9-6, took the loss. Houston went into the eighth trailing 9-8. Bill Doran started the winning rally when he walked. Kevin Bass singled and, one out later, Jose Cruz was walked intentionally to fill the bases. Gossage's first pitch to Davis sailed to the backstop, scoring Doran as Bass went to third.

Davis then lined a sacrifice fly to deep left, scoring Bass. The victory moved Houston into a second-place tie with Atlanta, Wfc games back of the Padres. Each team scored in the first inning. Alan Wiggins doubled and then scored when Astros right fielder Bass mishandled the ball for a two-base error. Davis singled home a run for the Astros.

Houston added two more runs in the second on Bailey's eighth home run of the season and an RBI single by Bass. San Diego chased Bob Knepper with a four-run third inning. The big blew was Bobby Brown's two-run double, scoring Luis Salazar and Wiggins, both of whom had singled. RBI singles by Steve Garvey and Carmelo Martinez produced two more runs. The Padres scored four more in the fourth when Wiggins came home on pitcher Vern Ruble's throwing error, and Brown scored on Kurt Bevacqua's double play ball.

Bruce Bochy then hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot. Houston made it 9-4 in the fifth after Phil Garner doubled and scored on second baseman Wiggins' fielding error on Davis' ground ball. Bailey hit his second home run of the game in the sixth. An RBI single by pinch-hitter Denny Walling and a two-run single by Alan Ashby made it 9-8 in the seventh. Florida fires football coach GAINESVILLE, Fla.

(AP) The University of Florida relieved Charley Peli of his coaching duties Sunday in the wake of a 21-month NCAA probe of the school's football program and named Assistant Coach Galen Hall as his replacement. Pell, 43, whose Gators beat Tulane 63-21 Saturday, had offered his resignation Aug. 26, but asked that he be allowed to remain as head coach through the end of the season. "1 fully intend to be here (for the rest of the season)," Pell said afte- the game Sunday. "I have made a commitment to the players." But UF President Marshall Criser ended Pell's six-year stay with th school Sunday, just five days after the National Collegiate Athletic Association notified his office of 107 alleged violations against the football program.

1 "I have carefully reviewed all the NCAA charges Based upon reviesvs, I have come to certain conclusions. After a thorough discussion of these conclusions with Coach Pell, I am relieving him of hik responsibilities as head football coach as of 6 p.m. (EOT) Criser said in a release Sunday.
