The line as it came to this point, was halted for about five minutes, during which the marchers and spectators were treated to a view of colored shooting Mars, burning fountains, blazing torches and glowing; red fires.

The parade formed at North Goodman street and Central nark. The line was headed by Marshal W. Merrill and staff of about twenty mounted officers, uniformed in white. Next came the escort of citizens, then the band, and after them the Eighth ward club, in red uniforms and white helmets; the Sixteenth ward club, Uniformed in red suits and black shakos; the Eighteenth drill corps, in white uniform and caps, a drum corps, and tiually the Hancock Volunteers, in their costumes oC white flannel shirts with II. on the fronts, dark trousers, and each man car- instead ith spad same as vember 14th, the company will meet each Monday night.

The regular drill season is supposed to begin October 1st, but because many members of the organization belong to campaign clubs Captain Smith obtained permission to put off the drill work until after election. The order issued requires that each member of the First Separate Company appear at least once a month for practice on the indoor range, until April 1st. This year the new MO-caliber rifle will be used, but instead of service cartridges a 32-caliber revolver shell will bo used. The men will insert the revolver cartridge in a steel "bushing that contains a tiring pin, bringing the whole to a length equal to that of a regular service cartridge. The regular service cartridge cannot be used because of its penetration.

A test was made recently by Quartermaster-Sergeant Glover on the new ritle range. Seven railroad ties were placed side by side against a telegraph pole. Allowing each tie a width of eight inches, the total penetration would be nfty-six inches, or nearly rive feet, through solid wood. It may easily be seen that such a bullet would not be safe on an indoor range. It was erroneously said in an afternoon paper that Captain Frank G.

Smith, who has been ill, had suffered a relapse. Captain Smith early this month burst two MRS. ALICE FABER Voice Culture and Piano, Pupil of P. A. New York.
