Smith and Homer W. Storey of tha State Liquor Authority today will consider steps to be taken in the matter of earlier closing of licensed beer, wine and liquor p.

aces in East Rochester, following receipt of a letter from Mayor W. Duane Smith of that village seeking action In the matter. Mayor Smith appealed to the l834-Rochestet'1934 Monroe County towns which border Rochester on the west, Gates and Greece, originally were one, Gatei originally having been the remaining portion of tha old township of Northampton after the division of that huge area. Tha 100-Acre Tract that became the nucleua of Rochester wai wholly in Gatei, is was the village until 1823, when a portion of Brighton on the east side of the river was annexed. Greece was taken from Gates In 1822, a year after Monroe County was formed.

When Rochester became a city In 1834 the city line was moved westward to Uencsce and Child Streets, taking Into the municipal limits a large area of agricultural land on the West Side. All the area west of the river and south of Buffalo Street (now Main Street West) and the Erie Canal (now Broad Street) from Buffalo Street Kast, was called the Third Ward, and all the territory north of that ward and west of the river was in the First and Second wards, as far as ths Lower Falls. Greece and Gales have continued to lose land to tha city since that time, until the city has reached the lake on the north and extends west and south to the New York State Barge Canal. In addition, new suburban areas are growing not only In Greece and Gates but In Chill as well.
