$28.3 K'M- raiser who has spent nearly all his life tend With This Season Drop in the Price. I Livonia. Jan. 20. The raising of bean is one of the principle industries of the surrounding territory, and the trials which attend it are many, especially has this been so the past year.

The dry weather of the late spring brought the seeding time at least a month later. Then the midsummer rains were so copious that cultivating was interfered with until it was too late. This allowed the weeds to beuie so large that the g-owth of the beans was dwarfed, hence u. small number of bushels to the acre. Many fields of beans, after cutting, were out in the storms from three to four weeks, nearly destroying the whole crop, spotting some beans, turning others entirely brown, and sometimes leaving all so soft that they were not salable.

Generally the beau crop is all threshed by the latter part of November, but this year it is not done yet. The immense amount of snow that blocks the roads, making it impossible for the machines to get about, being one cause, the lateness of the gathering another, and the last, an unheard of cause before, the freezing of the beans in the mow so hard it is- impossible to get them out. In the last case, the crop will be an entire loss. Prices last fall were rery high and indications pointed to their going higher, and the hope of the farmers kept up, but the prices fell and they are so low row that the crop will hardly pay for in a study of weather conditions and their in the early morning experienced some trouble, owing to the- closely packed snow in the cuts west of here.
