4C Paris News, May 1. 19M Entertainment Accent On PJC NL band is rated superior By DAVE HERFORT News Staff Writer The North Lamar High School Band, directed by Randy Jones, received a superior rating recently at the UIL Concert and Sighteading Contest in Hallsville. Jones said the 50-member band received "1" ratings in both concert and sightreading events. The group performed The Klaxon by Fillmore, the second movement of Symphony for Band by Persichetti, and Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo by Arnold. Three instrumental ensembles and eight soloists will compete this spring at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest, Jones said.

The groups and their personnel are as follows: CLARINET CHOIR: Racheal Baccus, Rosalind Covington, Amy Hudson, Angela Loveless, Tammy Jeanne Calk, Joey Crouch, Michael Morrison, Sheri Riney, Dianne Pentecost and Brian Payne. Heuser was one of 16 nominees from 12 states competing for the award was presented to Roger A. Mussell with William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, 111.

Heuser was nominated for the award by the Jewelry Technologies Department at Paris Junior College. He was recognized for being nominated at the 25th National Conference on Technical Education, sponsored by the American Technical Education Association. Heuser has taught at PJC since 1974. NOMINATED FOR AWARD Malcom Heuser, a gemology instructor at Paris Junior College, was recently a candidate for the Outstanding Technical Teacher of the Year award presented by the American technical Education Association. Barbara Thomas promoted Barbara Thomas has been promoted to director of counseling at Paris Junior College, according to PJC President Dennis Michaelis.

Mrs. Thomas is a licensed professional counselor and has been an academic, career and international student counselor at PJC since 1973. She received a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in counseling from East Texas State University. She has also taken post-graduate studies in counseling at ETSU. She is a member of the Northeast Texas Counselors Association, the Junior College Student Personnel Association of Texas, the National THOMAS Association for Foreign Student Affairs and Executive Women of Paris.

She and her husband Jim Thomas have two children, Rachel and Brandon. The family lives in Paris and attends Calvary United Methodist Church. Three classes offered Three classes will be offered by Paris Junior College in Clarksville during the Summer I term, according to Jimmye R. Hancock, dean of instructional support and continuing education. Registration for the classes will be from 5 p.m.

until 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, in the Vocational Building in Clarksville. The classes offered are: English 303.80 Composition and Rhetoric; Eric Depriest, instructor.
