If you are getting interested in org a i gardening and improving the environment by not using poisonous chemicals, it would be wise to plant a good sized bed of garlic. Better still, plant clumps of garlic here and there throughout your garden. Garlic makes a terrific insecticide as well as a repellant.

A senior citizen class in Reedley, California, experimented with a garlic oil spray concocted as follows: Lots of finely minced garlic was soaked in mineral oil for at least 24 hours. About 2 tsp. of the mix were added to a pint of water in which 2 tbsp. of Palmolive soap had been dissolved. This was thoroughly stirred, then strained into a glass container for When used for a spray, 1 to 2 tbsp.

of oil mix was blended into one pint of water. Results were astonishing: Cabbage moths, cabbage loopers, earwigs, potato bugs, grasshoppers, mosquitos, (including larvae), whiteflies and some aphids were killed on contact! House flies, June bugs and squash bugs died within minutes after being sprayed. Cockroaches, lygas bugs, slugs and hornworms died more slowly. If you don't mind the odor, spray, some on your pet to get rid of fleas. It should work.

If you have a house dog, don't try this. If you would like to try some garlic, you could experiment with planting the cloves in the fall. It is quite cold-hardy. Plant two inches deep and six inches apart, or disperse about the garden as you would like. If you really get to appreciating garlic and its many syrup, insect repellent, deer chaser, etc.

you might join the garlic support group. "The Order of the Stinking Rose." Garlic likes a rich, deep, moist but well- drained soil. Despite the many uses of garlic, it does have one bad odor. To nullify this, chew a sprig of parsley after eating garlic. Garlic can be grown from seed, but takes longer than with cloves.

It is said that garlic eaten daily will give strength and stamina. It was used by Odysseus to keep the sorceress circe from turning him into a pig. It would probably be a better thing to take then the steroids that are so harmful.
