I showed the statement him to-day, and he told me personally that he never made any such remark. can Joseph Guzzetta, Citizens' candidate for council-manat-large be expected to know the city's, resident problems, of Rochester when he for has only been two years? Dr. Guzzetta has lived and been practicing his profession inRochester for nine years.

He owns his home in Seneca parkway and has been paying city taxes for five years. The Hotchkiss group knew this before it asked the question. As to Mr. MacSweeney "5-- Didn't Leo MacSweeney, ring leader of the Citizens' Republican group, contribute his time and money two years ago to defeat the City Manager Charter? No. Two years ago Mr.

MacSweeney spent his time and money in bringing about the nomination of Mayor Van Zandt, Comptroller Wilson and District-Attorney Love when Hotchkiss tried to throw these men out of the Republican party. Why 'the MacSweeney 50 interested in success of the insurgents now? To beat the Hotchkiss system of intimidation city, county, state, and federal employees, tnd to secure the City Manager Charter a friendly administration. "Does he expect to sell them slag, plant hr which he represents, for Rochof an out -town ester's streets? Slag is used for by cities throughout the country. Certainly Mr. MacSweeney expects to slag to the city if his product is high grade and his price lowest.

He has sold to the city during Mayor O'Neil's administraalas, tion. Why shouldn't he be privileged to continue selling his product to the city on the same terms! "And then there is another question asked by the Hotchkiss group in another eleventh-hour advertisement. Here's the question: 'In recent statement purporting to be from George W. Todd, president of the Rochester and Lake Ontario chance of being sold to the City of Company will stand A better Water Rochester at a prohibited price if his handpicked insurgent candidates are "Mr. Todd did not suggest the of a single candidate on the Citizens' Republican committee ticket.

As A successful business man, one who has given liberally to every good cause, one who has always stood for the finest things in our civic life, one who puts the interests of his party above the personal ambitions of A discredited party leader, Mr. Todd's honor questioned." The statement read by Mr. Goodwin recalled charges by Leo A. MacSweeney, campaign manager of the Citizens' group, that party funds used illegally. Recalling the been, solicitation campaign of the Hotchkiss group last spring, he said: "The money was in by opinion.

raised for the purpose of nominating in the primaries and later electing as councilmen persons known to be unfavorable toward the city manager plan. unfavorable toward the principle of independence in the party and wholly favorable to Hotchkiss and what Mr. Hotchkiss stands for. "The next charge made by the Citizens' Republicans was that last March the Hotchkiss organization began to call in ward leaders and openely state that the plan this fall was to nominate in the primaries persons known to be loyal to Hotchkiss. At the same time it was also stated that Mayor O'Neil would be a candidate for the Council with the intention of resigning, having his place taken by another Hotchkiss man, and then have O'Neil appointed city manager.

"The charge has been repeated. It has never been denied. "To have a city manager picked before the primaries is contrary to the spirit of the City Manager Charter. "The charge has been made that the candidates on the Hotchkiss ticket know of the plan to make O'Neil city manager. This charge has not been denied." Charge Mudslinging Charging the Hotchkiss speakers with mudslinging, the statement asserts was off" the 'Hotchkiss ticket, and then goes on to refute the Hotchkiss claim that he is for the new Charter.

The statement continues: "While conducting one campaign in the public press the Hotchkiss group has conducted another campaign by word of mouth. "City officials have gone to city employees and told them that they would lose their Jobs if they didn't line up with the Hotchkiss forces. This charge was made two weeks ago. Hotchkiss has not denied it. "Hotchkiss workers have presented application for the position of firemen or policemen to young men of voting age, asking them to sign and assuring them of positions if the Hotchkiss group were successful.

"A letter purporting to carry the signature of Joseph C. Wilson was sent to voters in the Nineteenth ward. Mr. Wilson never gave his consent to such a letter. "Mr.

Wilson held a meeting in the Nineteenth ward. Hotchkiss workers hired a band to stand in front of the hall and play in order to annoy speakers. "City employees are discharged because they have said a good word the Citizens' Republican ticket. for, county employee WAS discharged because his brother was named as candidate for county committeeman on the Republican committee. "These charges stand." mASS was celebrated by Rev.

Thomas F. Connors. The bearers were John and Joseph Short, Myron McCarty, Arthur Cooneau, and Asa and Percy Briggs. Interment was made in the family lot in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where the Anal blessing was given by Rev. John Hogan.
