There was no public demonstration made in honor of the patron saint, aside from a ball at the academy of music in the evening. Early in the morning, however, St, Patrick was hung in effigy suspended from a tree in ront of the First National bank, causing no little commotion among certain Irish citisens.

He was taken down and ordered to be drowned in the canal by the president of the village. Some of the Irishmen exhibited their wounded dignity, and made open charge as to the perpetrator of the matter. He moved permission be given. Permission having been given Mr. Tubbs said he wished simply to make a few re-narks abont the use of the Hemlock water at Area. This was induced by the recent occurrences at the are in the Rochester Brewing company's works. They had now made arrangements with the fire department that when necessary in case of fires the pressure could be turned on direct from the Rush reservoir, This had a head of 2-50 feet making the strong pressure of ill) pounds to the inch.

But iu order to use this water it was necessary that the best hose be used else the pressure could not be withstood. Break in the hose would be equivalent to a break in the street pipe sa far as the Are was concerned.
