Get The Word On Dam Plans CAWKER CITY Facts of levelling and prepar figures on the proposed Glen El-i ing land for irrigation in the dis- der dam on the Solomon River were discussed by members of Cawker City's Commercial Club and Bureau of Reclamation officials at a meeting in McCook, Neb. Paul Berg, chief bureau engineer, told the group plans for the dam have been pigeonholed. He said, however, according to the Cawker City Ledger, that action may be taken on the dam if enough farmers in the irrigation district downstream are interested.

He said construction of the dam hinges on several points. Beloit A Factor The city of Beloit could be a determining factor, he said, if it tigns a contract for water rights. A large flood, similar to that of 1951, could be another factor. trict. The reservoir would eliminate the.

road south of Cawker City. The county road running south which joins US 24 one and one- half miles west of Cawker City could be maintained but would be covered during extreme flooding. When the reservoir is filled to capacity to prevent downstream flooding, Cawker City would be on a peninsula, with water in draws east and west of the city. These could be diked, however, to prevent flooding. Berg said it Is possible US24 could be routed to enter Cawker City after skirting the northern perimeter of the reservoir, bul this decision would rest with the state highway department.

Cemetaries in the area would be removed by the government; the The conservation pool in the government also would relocate reservoir area would be 9,300 and replace Cawker City's water acres. Berg said. At extreme wells out of the basin flood stage, such as July, 1951. 30,000 acres would be covered water in the reservoir. Land condemned reservoir area would be removed from the tax rolls; land in the reservoir area which could be farmed except during extreme flood situations would be bought from the Of Car That Struck Her owner, an easement given and the land released to the former occupant.

This land would be returned to tax rolls. The irrigation districts HAYS Two years ago. Nan cy Brink-man, 17, Stafford stepped from behind one automobile into the path of another. It was driven by Barley B. Ap 18, of Garfield.
