Democrat Rock Colasurdo, Hammonton First candidates, Elsie Baez, Tom Gribbin and Ed Wuil- lermin, and Republicans, Joe Giralo, Otto Hernandez and Mickey Pullia, answered questions about various topics, including town services, business outlook, taxes and the handling of the sewer and water department. Hammonton resident and communications major, Taylor Bailey, moder- ated the event, which included approximately an hour allotted for residents to ask the three parties questions. There are three seats at stake for council, which is controlled by Hammonton First with a 4-3 voting edge. The open forum raised tensions from the start, as Gribbin asked the other candidates if questions could be directed to individual candidates rather than the parties. Hernandez, who led debate negotiations for his ticket, took issue with the request.

Bailey kept the rules as agreed upon and directions were asked to the parties as a whole. However, the majority of the approximately 45 residents in the audience appeared to be Hammonton First residents, and many of the questions asked seemed to challenge the Republicans directly. The Republicans focused on fiscal responsibility and the need for Town Council to better manage the budget. have, and any town does, and any public enterprise does, a finite set of resources, and those resources have to be managed carefully through good decisions and by good Hernandez said. have called for years for a budget meeting, which we had in the past, (to go over) line item by line said Pullia.
