2A Port. It, Tridens Prairie's state historical marker to be dedicated in ceremonies Tuesday Tridens Prairie state historical marker dedication plans are being completed, according to organizers. Ceremonies are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the prairie eight miles west of Paris on U.S. 82 at the intersection with F.M.

Dave Montgomery of the managing committee for the prairie wfll preside, making introductions of members of the committee and the representatives of the Nature Conservancy from the San Antonio office, as well as other dignitaries. "An additional feature to the program will be the Nature Conservancy's presentation of the Texas Land Steward's Society Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. George Woodfin, owner of Woodfin- Smiley's Meadow nearby on U.S. 82 West," Montgomery said.

Andrew Sansom, executive director of the Conservancy will present the certificate. Others on the program include Skipper Steely, Paris historian who wrote the history of the prairie for the application for the state historical marker; Sansom, who will talk of the significance of the prairie; Mrs. K. G. Johnson, Palestine, president of Texas Garden Clubs which raised nearly $40,000 for the prairie purchase during its recognition as a National Land Trust project for the nation's Bicentennial; Kirby Pickett of the Department of Highways and Public Transportation, speaking on the maintenance of the marker site and the area; and the dedicatory prayer to the late Marshall Nichols who worked to get the Prairie recognized as a preserve, by Ronnie Tidwell, District Conservationist, Paris.

Mrs. Printis Ellis, a member of the managing committee who wrote with Steely the application for the marker, will do the unveiling. Printed programs will contain the wording for the marker. The program is open to the public. Fred Neal Jr.

Man who bit off man's nose says he feared for his life ABILENE, Texas (AP) An Abilene man says he bit off the end of a man's nose because he feared for his life. "I was scared for my life.

I had to do something to get away," Thomas Michael La Fave, 25, testified in District Court here Tuesday. La Fave is being tried on a charge of aggravaN-d assault in connection with an incident Sept. 9, 1984, in which Ralph Garcia Gonzales, 37, of Abilene, had the end of his nose bit off. Abilene Police officer Steve Parks testified thai La Fave told him he bit Gonzales' nose because "I feared I was fixing to die." The case was scheduled to go to a jury of six men and six women today. Dr.

Donald Wehmeyer, a plastic surgeon who still is in the process of reconstructing Gonzales' nose, testified that the portion of the nose recovered by police was too small to attempt surgical reattachment. Wehmeyer said Gonzales might have needed less medical attention if the entire nose, not just the bulbous tip, had been severed. He said Gonzales has had 10 major reconstruction procedures and faces at least two more Melanie Clifford. Not shown are Virginia Brown, Jeri Woolridge and Bonnie Coker. The goal of the Y's June campaign is to raise $250,000 for building renovation and construction of a swimming pool.

She is a junior elementary education student, specializing in reading and a 1983 graduate of North Lamar High School. She is also a 1985 honor graduate of Paris Junior College. To qualify for the dean's list a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.75 with no grade below a and a minimum of 12 semester hours. Ames were transferred from Ohio to Paris about 18 months ago. He is an executive with Babcock Wilcox. "I joined the Auxiliary when we moved here because I wanted to be involved in the community and this seemed like the best organization in town," she said. An arts and crafts enthusiast, she owned her own shop in Ohio. Before that, when they lived in Buffalo, N.Y., she worked for the Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Hospital for eight years.

Roswell Park is one of the largest cancer research centers in the United States. Members of the First United Methodist Church, Mr. and Mrs. Ames have three children and two grandchildren.
